The Learning Specialist facilitates leadership and staff development training of soft skills.  After monitoring and managing assessments of the effectiveness of learning the Learning Specialist assists in the design, development and implementation of new in-person and live-virtual learning experiences and development programs. 



  • Assist in the design and development of programs and provide input for ongoing staff and manager development content updates and maintenance of programs.
  • Contributes to the overall development of the learning environment of the organization.
  • Determine the effectiveness of learning and the transfer of learned skills to the workplace by using a variety of measurement tools that include evaluations, assessments, and surveys (when appropriate).
  • Plan, coordinate, and facilitate staff and manager development opportunities consistently across UPMC.
  • Effectively communicate with HR partners, leaders, and learners.
  • Assist in the assessment of learning needs of the organization through conducting basic learning consultation (and other assessment methods) with HR partners, leaders, and learners.
  • Be a central reference point for inquiries related to staff and manager development, onboarding, and related programs.
  • Participate in projects as assigned.
  • Work closely with other learning professionals to offer assistance and ensure consistency in program delivery.



  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business, Learning and Development, or related field required.
  • Minimum of 2 years of training experience required.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of training curriculum design, development, and delivery.
  • Must be highly organized, creative, timely, and possess strong communication skills.
  • Proficient skills in the use of Microsoft products, PeopleSoft, or other HRIS systems.
  • Must be able to work regular business hours with scheduling flexibility.
