The Facilities Maintenance department at UPMC Pinnacle Harrisburg is growing and looking for a hands-on Facilities Manager! UPMC Pinnacle Harrisburg is a full-service acute care hospital, home to the following services: Labor & Delivery, Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, CardioVascular Institute, Surgery, Bone, Joint and Spine Institutes, Imaging, Transplant (Kidney and Pancreas), ICU, Emergency Department, Pharmacy/Retail pharmacy, Inpatient Rehabilitation and Laboratory, including blood donor lab. 

Strategically manage all aspects of the UPMC Pinnacle Harrisburg Maintenance Departments assigned areas under the department's jurisdiction which may include autoclave, incinerators, laboratories, loading docks, patient areas, public areas and all ancillary areas. 

  • Oversee testing and training to ensure compliance with TJC, DOH, AAALAC, Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), DLAR, Department of Agriculture, etc., guidelines.
  • Responsible for the electrical, medical gas, natural gas, domestic hot and cold water, chilled water, hot water and heating and steam.
  • Responsible for coordinating and scheduling utility outages necessary for preventative maintenance and construction.
  • Collaborate with various UPMC maintenance shops and departments to ensure systems and equipment meet facility and/or departmental standards.
  • Oversee department budget and purchasing, including supplies, equipment, construction projects and/or crews, and management of vendor contracts to achieve economic and efficient operations consistent with UPMC's missions, goals and objectives while maintaining the principles of cost containment.
  • Effectively oversee FTE staff to ensure continuous improvement in productivity and quality. Maintain an organizational structure appropriate to achieve the organizational objectives of the department while managing daily staffing requirements and schedules to ensure that daily work and special assignments are completed.
  • Responsible for all facets of UPMC Memorial payroll procedures, including but not limited to: ensuring that employee hours worked, including overtime, are properly submitted according to deadline, preparation and processing of employee records, submission of scheduled salary increases, and tracking of compensated absences.
  • Assist in revising the department Policies and Procedures, as well as periodically analyzing standard operation procedures for potential improvement.
  • Inspect routinely all areas of responsibility and equipment operation for safety and housekeeping and implement corrective actions when necessary.
  • Work with supervisors to bring personnel problems in their initial stages to a comprehensive solution to avoid major grievances: provide a forum for discussion and resolution of personnel problems to ensure positive and professional interaction; advise supervisor of either the resolution of the problem or the need for further investigation; direct, at the request of the Engineering and Maintenance Department, the hospital, the investigation of continuing problems and use all necessary resources to follow through to a permanent solution.
  • Serve as a liaison between UPMC's Facilities, Engineering and Maintenance Department and the Corporate Real Estate Department to oversee building systems and respond to tenant needs and concerns.
  • Responsible for all personnel reporting to or through his/her direct reports, including recruitment, orientation, retention, performance appraisals, progressive discipline, and compliance with training and education requirements.
  • The facilities manager will be required to blend both administration and hands-on work within the facility - approximately 40% administration and 70% hands-on.


  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Completion of accredited trade school or other applicable certified training in related field a plus. 
  • Three to five years of experience, preferably in a large, fast-paced or healthcare setting is required. 
  • Must be proficient in all phases of building operations. 
  • Working knowledge of the physical plant, preventive maintenance and general operations a plus. 
    • HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and other essential trades is preferred.
  • Strong leadership, communication, verbal and written skills are required. 
  • Must possess the skills to supervise and motivate subordinates. 
  • Formal training of diverse management techniques on a university level a plus. 
  • Strong computer skills and the ability to operate computerized building management systems and CMMS systems are required.
