Are you an insurance professional looking for your next career opportunity?  If so, we are searching for an Insurance Analyst to join our Corporate Captive Insurance Team.

This position is based out of the US Steel Tower in downtown Pittsburgh but offers remote work opportunities throughout the week.  Local travel is required as needed by the department.

In this role, the Insurance Analyst will be responsible for obtaining the insurance coverage for all UPMC entities. This will involve surveying the physical plant, inspection of property, submission of data to the broker and marketing the insurance policies. The goal of the Insurance Analyst will be to provide appropriate insurance coverage for all entities at the lowest possible premium. This function includes responsibility for Professional Liability, General Liability, Property, Directors and Officers, Business Interruption, Automobile, Garagekeepers Liability, Boiler and machinery, Crime, Umbrella, Volunteers, Travel, and any other entities as directed by the Director, Corporate Insurance, insurance coverage that is identified as necessary.

  • Complete special projects and contribute to daily Risk Management activities as needed.
  • Review each insurance policy two months prior to the renewal date. Meet with appropriate personnel and update the policy, review changes with the broker and present marketing efforts to the Director of Risk Management and Vice President and Counsel
  • Meet with loss control representatives or underwriters for property and garage/auto insurance. Discuss recommendations set forth by the engineers and address each by complying with the request or implementing alternate methods.
  • Assist in maintaining a database which includes a listing with location and square footage of all entities insured, policy numbers, insurance company name, renewal dates and other pertinent information.
  • Provide necessary information to UPMC Accounting Department by answering all questions related to insurance premiums and/or allocations for each policy.
  • Provide the broker with all relevant information to renew Professional Liability Insurance.
  • Assist in the administration of General Liability Insurance coverage for all special UPMC functions or projects.
  • Review Initial Investigation Reports and work with the Claims Analyst to identify trends.
  • Request and Maintain Certificates of Insurance
  • Work with Claims Analyst to determine if claims are to be reported to the insurance company. Coordinate all claim activity.
  • Distribute insurance surveys on an annual basis to update information for coverage.
  • Recommend coverage to the Director, Corporate Insurance through a formal report within a reasonable time frame prior to renewal. Prepare memo of recommendation for Vice President and Counsel.
  • Review and make recommendations with regard to combining various insurance policies.
  • Maintain a procedure with Purchasing to receive notification of all deletions, purchases and rentals of vehicles. Inspect all vehicles and determine the appropriate coverage.
  • Survey physical plant of UPMC Hospitals and all off-site locations to determine what the insurance needs are throughout the year. Coordinate surveys with appropriate employees when the Insurer requires a physical plant survey to assess the liability issues.
  • Communicate on a regular basis with Department Heads, Vice Presidents and other appropriate personnel regarding contacts and insurance requirements.


  • High School Diploma and seven years of experience with a broker or insurance company OR Associate's Degree and five years of experience with a broker or insurance company OR Bachelor's Degree in Business or Communications and three years of experience with a broker or insurance company.
  • CPCU or ARM is preferred.
