Description

The Dermatology Office at UPMC is looking for a full-time Certified Medical Assistant.  This position works 40 hours per week, weekdays only, although hours may vary between 7:30 am and 5:00 pm.  Our Certified Medical Assistant
assists physicians with various aspects of patient care (including clerical, environmental, and organizational tasks) ensuring patient satisfaction. In addition to core Medical Assistant responsibilities, this position serves as the lead person for their team regarding day-to-day workflow issues or office procedures.  This position requires the completion of both clinical and clerical duties, including scheduling, insurance verification and other front-office tasks as needed.

Responsibilities:
  • Attends routine meeting with staff to communicate procedural changes to improve service quality and patient safety.
  • Participates in implementation of department goals, processes and procedures. Assists with orientation of new staff members.
  • Relay instructions and education to patients per provider's instruction.
  • Document patient information into the medical record and adhere to all confidentiality requirements and policies.
  • Works directly with the manager to identify opportunities for improvement in regards to clinical/nonclinical functions, infection control procedures.
  • Serves as an office super user of EPIC Care as assigned.
  • Must attend competency training and be responsible and demonstrate proficiency in all practice category specific tasks from training. Includes but not limited to taking vital signs, medication and vaccine administration and passing medication test, CLIA testing collection of labs, TB skin testing, wound care and dressing change and other specific clinical functions (EKG, phlebotomy, ear irrigation) with training and perform clinical procedures according to policy an procedure.
  • Send and receive patient medical records in accordance with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and other state and federal regulations.
  • Obtain lab/xray reports, hospital notes, referral information. Complete forms/requisitions as needed. Schedule appointments. Verify insurance coverage and patient demographics.
  • Prepare patient rooms, set up instruments and equipment according to department protocol, room patients and prepare for examination.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Candidates must have successfully completed a medical assistant program OR must hold national medical assistant certification OR must have graduated from an LPN, RN or Paramedic program OR must be a currently-licensed EMT.
  • Strong computer skills required.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology required.
  • Experience with medical office duties, both clinical and clerical, strongly preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Medical Assistant
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
