Description
Purpose:Monitor of safety, security and medical systems throughout the Institute, as well as functioning as a communications operator and dispatcher.
Responsibilities:
- Knowledge of various UPMC programs and how to effectively and appropriately connect the requester to the specific program.
- Dispatch appropriate personnel when necessary complete proper documentation.
- Operate security PC Pak.
- Contact and dispatch the requested on-call person as well as building engineer and housekeeping staff, when necessary.
- Maintain accurate logs within guidelines of department, to include monitoring of UPMC vehicles, keys, valuables, radios and law enforcement's weapons.
- Familiar with staff and residents' information, as well as visiting hours, and hospital policies (perform the role of phone directory for staff and visitors).
- Initiate required response to the various security systems to include emergency body button, panic buttons, closed circuit televisions, VCR's and burglar alarm systems.
- Monitor various other alarms contained within the security systems office.
- Dispatch appropriate personnel when necessary and complete proper documentation.
- Manage various forms of communications to include the back-up paging system, security intercom systems and the power failure telephone system.
- Perform well under conditions of emergency of high stress to include implementing the appropriate emergency response, as well as proper tracing of phone calls in the event of a possible threat of danger (i.e., bomb threat) or patient related assistance (i.e., suicide).
- Ensure all aforementioned equipment is functioning properly.
- Any and all discrepancies to be immediately reported to the appropriate responsible department, as well as ensure accurate timely documentation is completed, to include phone or utility disruptions.
- Dispatch appropriately and document any/all necessary discrepancies.
- Assist management in filling Security Officer call off.
- Maintain daily record of all on-call personnel to include Administrator-on-Call, Maintenance, Construction, and any other pertinent staff.
- Receive and dispatch all calls requiring Security Officer or agency guard's response. Security Systems office functions as the base station for the hospital's Security Department internal communication.
- Change VCR tapes as instructed.
- Conform to strict confidentiality.
- Ensure proper documentation of above responsibilities.
- Contact Campus Police and/or Pittsburgh Police for back-up in emergency situations.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Basic computer knowledge and skills and flexibility to work rotating shifts are required.
- Ability to deal effectively with people is necessary.
