Program Manager, ONC

Description

UPMC Cancer Center is currently hiring a full-time Program Manager. This position will be located at the Hillman Cancer Center in Shadyside. 

The Program Manager will be responsible for a wide range of duties that facilitate and ensure the success of the Director, by providing effective management in administration, project oversight, communications, relationship-building, and decision-making. This individual will be seen as the "Chief of Staff" for the Director's Office, so executive management experience is highly preferred.

Responsibilities:
  • Manage the administrative functions of the office of the director and facilitates the strategic needs of the Director, including project management; communications; priority-setting, and relationship building.
  • Advises the Director on potential issues and recommends appropriate or enacts follow up responses or actions.
  • Knowledgeable about Cancer Center issues and challenges; develops strategies and alternatives for the Director to consider in dealing with those issues and challenges.
  • Oversees the smooth operation of the Director's office to include personnel, scheduling, communications, and rapid response to critical issues.
  • Acts as a point of contact and facilitator with faculty, staff, the University and UPMC.
  • Responsible for communications flowing to and from the Director's office.
  • Deals with issues and subject matter that require sensitivity, discretion, good judgment, and negotiation.
  • Demonstrates the ability to create a shared vision applies critical thinking skills and utilizes financial and quality data and conceptual knowledge in the development of the department vision and operational plan.
  • Oversees and participates in the coordination of events and special projects for the office of the Director.
  • Works with other departments throughout the UPMC Hillman Cancer Center to maximize opportunities to showcase the Director and the Cancer Center on a national stage, thereby increasing the national profile of the institution, increasing funding opportunities and increasing referrals.
  • Collaborates with and manages additional Administrators that serve the Director's office.
  • Is consulted on daily tasks such as scheduling, communications, and requests that are received by the office. Determines office priorities; designs and implements policies, procedures and systems to enhance office production and efficiency.
  • Reports directly to the Director of UPMC Hillman Cancer Center. Self-starter with mission-centric work ethic and ability to work independently of constant/regular supervision. 
  • This position requires ability to prioritize responsibilities and openly communicate, recognize, and address the needs of the Director and their many commitments to the University and UPMC Hillman Cancer Center.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors in Business, healthcare, or a related field is required. 
  • Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years in a senior level administration position with executive management experience strongly desirable. 
  • Must have excellent organizational and time management skills including multi-tasking ability, meet requests from multiple individuals, and respond appropriately to sudden workload changes. 
  • Personal organization and time management skills including multi-tasking ability. 
  • Requires strong written and oral communication skills. 
  • The candidate should have a high degree of self-motivation, excellent time management, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Demonstrates a high level of initiative in troubleshooting. 
  • Effectively collaborates across departments within UPMC Hillman Cancer Center and external contacts.
