Manage fiscal budgets, directly supervise all staff, coordinate diagnostic and intraoperative services among all UPMC pavilions. The supervisor will train new staff, and manage all day-to-day operations under the direction of the Medical Director and the Administrative Director. Has 24 hr responsibility for achieving quality patient care services through leadership and utilization of resources.


  • Communicate the mission, vision and philosophy of Clinical Administration and the UPMCS effectively. 
  • Exhibit and practice service excellence by actively seeking, listening, and responding to the needs of patients, families, physicians and others. 
  • Control the financial performance and productivity of department within defined fiscal parameters. 
  • Provide assistance to the Administrative Director in preparing annual man-hour and capital budgets based upon analysis of clinical goals and established standards. 
  • Maintain and update department productivity data in MRS.

  • Prepare a deliverable personnel schedule that demonstrates ability to manage resources to meet volume.

  • Develop Standards & Practice in accordance with regulatory requirements. Supervise UPMC staff across all UPMC pavillions. 
  • Interview and select employees.
  • Evaluate, counsel and train staff to assure competency through proper orientation and measurements.
  • Provide ongoing education for all staff. 
  • Serve as a resource for staff and other disciplines. 
  • Provide staff safety and all organizational mandatory training to ensure compliance with OSHA, Health Department and JCHAO guidelines.
  • Establish appropriate and effective communication strategies with other disciplines, physicians and peers. 
  • Account for establishment of professional and respectful interpersonal relationships.
  • Develop collegial relationships with departmental and institutional staff.    
  • Direct clinical practice and activities that procedure results in measurable outcomes. 
  • Recommend changes in clinical practice or process improvement based upon clinical findings, multidisciplinary team recommendations, and research to promote cost/quality outcomes. 
  • Ensure that department meets and complies with JCHAO standards and regulations, as well as the standards and regulations for all regulatory agencies.
  • Receive feedback and directions constructively. 
  • Identify and communicate learning needs to appropriate Clinical Director.    
  • Take actions to improve knowledge, skills and performance based on feedback or on self-identified developmental needs. 
  • Prior to performing new or challenging skills, request assistance and review policies and procedures.

  • Able to perform all aspects of diagnostic Evoked Potentials, Transcranial Doppler, Continuous EEG and all aspects of intraoperative monitoring in the Center for Clinical Neurophysiology Department. 
  • Coordinate staff and resources to provide efficient service on 24 hr basis for diagnostic and intraoperative monitoring among PUH, CHP, MUH and VA hospitals. 
  • Ensure performance and productivity as defined by the budget. 
  • Performs employee evaluations in a timely fashion. 
  • Interviews and counsel employees and make recommendations to the Administrative director. 
  • Troubleshoots all equipment failures and works with hardware and software engineers to provide uninterrupted and high quality service at all times. 
  •  Monitor all biomedical inspections on all departmental equipment. 
  • Comply with safety policies and practices as per hospital directives.
  • Develop and maintain orientation plans for new employees. Coordinate, evaluate and maintain 6 months on-job training program for new hires. Supervise all archiving of data. 
  • Prepare monthly statistics. Write and review Departmental Policies and Procedures. 
  •  Monitor the accuracy of payroll and monitors OT in accordance with the Flex Time Policy. Prepare and maintain on-call weekend schedules. Ensure appropriateness, accuracy and confidentiality of all documentation generated by the department.
  • Complete and monitor Quality Assurance protocols as directed by the Clinical Administrator. Insure that all billings are completed accurately and in within a deadline. Prepare and monitor capital and operational budgets
  •  Know proficiently departmental and Institutional Policies and Procedures, and displays and enforces knowledge of infection control and universal precautions. 
  • Reviews and approves supply orders in accordance with the budgetary allowances. Maintains standards of patient care. 
  • Collaborates with physicians to ensure quality of patient care. 
  • Respond to emergent situations and uptakes appropriate actions.
  • Adhere and enforce strictly patient confidentiality issues.
  • Perform work in a timely and productive manner.



  • Completion of Bachelors degree in Science, preferably in Neuroscience with emphasis on anatomy and physiology.
  • 5 years minimum experience in Evoked Potentials and/or Intraoperative Monitoring.
  • 3 years minimum experience in supervision.
  • 25% travel for coverage, not limited to distance or length of stay

    Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
    CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
