Research Coordinator

Description

Purpose:
The Affective Neuroscience and Developmental Psychopathology Lab is a busy and dynamic lab conducting research on mental health and brain development in adolescents and young adults. Studies include functional MRI, behavior measurement, self-report, clinical interviews, and non-invasive brain stimulation. There are several studies in progress, and activities include everything from planning new studies (e.g., contributing to grant applications) to collecting data to analyzing data and preparing scientific papers. it's a team-focused, collegial atmosphere where people enjoy working together and supporting each other's efforts.

This position is grant funded.

Responsibilities:
  • Coordinate activities and duties for approved research projects according to defined protocols and procedures.
  • Supervise and train research staff for responsibilities and procedures across clinical and developmental neuroscience studies. 
  • Procedures include screening and assessment of human subjects.
  • Supervise and track recruitment of participants. 
  • Develop and implement strategies for recruitment.
  • Develop systems for, supervise, and track data collection, data management, and quality control of data.
  • Develop, maintain, and update documentation, including standard operating procedures, compliance materials, and materials for research tasks and procedures.
  • Contribute to preparation of research grant applications, tracking of grant finances, and compiling material for progress reports and other communication.
  • Manage collection, storage, and shipping of specimens as needed. 
  • Contribute to developing, maintaining, renewing, and modifying IRB protocols, consent forms, and related documents.
  • Follow appropriate research policies, procedures, and regulations.

Qualifications

  • B.A. degree, or equivalent combination of experience and training - including 3-5 years of post baccalaureate experience in coordinating multiple aspects of research projects (patient recruitment, assessment, treatment planning, and data collection,) required.
  • Masters degree strongly preferred. 
  • Experience conducting clinical research with mental health populations preferred.
  • Experience training staff in clinical studies preferred.
  • Experience interacting with patients and family members preferred. 
  • Skills in developing new strategies or approaches to projects preferred.
  • Computer Skills (Microsoft Office Products). IRB experience preferred.
  • Ability to accurately collect, and store research data.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written. 
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with patients, staff and investigators as well as maintain patient confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational skills. 
  • Ability to work independently, must be able to work a flexible schedule based on study needs. Ability to interact with patients/study participants and research and medical staff.
  • Knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below. 
  • Knowledge of the principles of growth and cognition over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs and to provide the care needs as described in the department's policy and procedures.
