Description
Provide pastoral care to all patients and their families.
Responsibilities:
- Triage calls/requests to appropriate chaplain when need arises.
- Understand hospital and department standards and policies.
- AT ALL TIMES: Demonstrate responsible and committed pastoral care to patient population.
- WHEN IN-HOUSE: Provide pastoral care in routine and emergent situations. Complete required documentation. Participate in multidisciplinary team meetings as required. Communicate well in professional exchange of ideas with staff.
- WHEN ON-CALL: Have pager on before on-call period begins. Be within 20 miles of the hospital when on-call. Answer pager immediately. Handle emergency calls and/or be able to arrive at UPMC Presby/Montefiore within 30 minutes of request. Handle non-emergency calls immediately by leaving a referral to the staff chaplains on Audix (phone message system). Write up all call by using the Long-Range Pager Report and the Interdisciplinary sheet found in patient's chart.
Qualifications
- Understanding of health care ministry.
- Knowledge of religious values and traditions.
- Minimum 2 units Clinical Pastoral Education preferred.
- Spiritual maturity and emotional stability.
- Knowledge and skills necessary to provide pastoral care to patients served.
- Ability to work in a multi-cultural setting.
- Sensitivity to multi-cultural/religious diversity.
- Ability to adapt to on-going change.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Ordination or Commission to function in a ministry of pastoral care and endorsement by his/her denomination authority or; Ordained Priest in good standing; Rabbi in good standing. Endorsement by the religious superior/ecclesial body.
Endorsement by the Bishop and/or religious superior and granted faculties by the local Bishop.
