Research Specialist



The YoungMoms Research Study is devoted to understanding and enhancing younger women’s perinatal health and the impact of substance use on infant outcomes. The lab is within the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Pittsburgh. The Research Specialist will be responsible for screening, recruiting, and consenting YoungMoms’ participants for a study on prenatal health in sexual minority women. Data collection involves an online survey and qualitative interviews. Some evenings and nights may be required for interviews.


This position is grant funded.

  • Access an electronic research study database to determine if a participant is eligible for the study.
  • Assist with recruitment by telephone and email, scheduling appointments for interviews, obtaining written or verbal consent, collecting data by sending participants a link to an online survey, and conducting videochat, telephone, or face-to-face interviews.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and follow proper data management procedures in the research study, including updating the electronic database with each contact, consent, payment, and interview.  
  • Other related duties as assigned in connection with research.


  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in psychology, neuroscience, sociology or related research field.
  • Minimum of one year of work experience in a research project and/or related clinical setting is required.
  • Prior related work experience in a research setting preferred.
  • Familiarity with computers and common software packages required.
  • Working knowledge of research methodology and data collection/management is strongly preferred.
