Purpose:
Corporate Health Services is looking to hire a Senior Pharmacy Director,
Provider Pharmacy Service Line to participate in setting overall pharmacy
strategy for the UPMC provider network in coordination with other pharmacy
service line leadership. This position will help lead the strategy and effort
to standardize how medications are being used, what types of medications are
being purchased, and how UPMC is ensuring safe medication practices across the
provider network.
In this highly visible role, this person will participate in making pharmacy decisions in conjunction with a small group of executives as part of the pharmacy strategic leadership group. This Senior Director will also support and oversee the clinical pharmacy specialists in the pharmacy service center.
Responsibilities:
- Oversees pharmacy operations across the organization, both contracted and operations by the organization to provide timely and comprehensive pharmaceutical care services to the patients. Other duties as assigned.
- Analyzes financial performance and areas of risk and compliance to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Acts as a liaison to the department of pharmacy during the onboarding process of newly integrated UPMC facilities.
- Ensures that policies and procedures are developed and implemented according to organizational, regional, national, state, and federal requirements and guidelines.
- Provide oversight of quality initiatives to ensure targets are met or exceeded through effective planning, oversight and teaching.
- Assesses opportunities for cost savings and system improvements and identifies cost efficiencies in drug purchasing and usage.
- Serves as the point person and coordinator for all pharmacy internal audits.
- Actively participates in system-wide interdisciplinary committees related to pharmacy services and hospital clinical programs. Advocates for the role of the pharmacist on the patient care team at UPMC.
- Responsible for creation, review, and dissemination of appropriate outcome, process, and economic metrics, relevant to UPMC vision and mission for the Pharmacy Service Line.
- Collaborates with the Pharmacy Service Line to develop, implement, and evaluate the medication use process based on emerging trends, new regulatory requirements, and/or advances in patient safety.
- Recruit and manage qualified personnel to serve in the Pharmacy Service Center.
- Facilitate meetings of the System P&T Committee
- Reports to Medical Director of Pharmacy Service Line
Qualifications
- Currently Licensed Pharmacist with a PharmD
- Master of Pharmacy Business Administration or Healthcare Administration preferred.
- Minimum of 5 years healthcare administration experience with increasing degrees of responsibility.
- PGY1 or PGY2 residency preferred, but not required.
- Demonstrated equivalent leadership (Assistant Director level or higher) experience will be considered.
- Analytical and management ability necessary to establish, prioritize and execute goals and objectives.
- Outstanding interpersonal skills necessary to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with medical staff, administration, and other management personnel, interact with UPMC and external peers and communicate with vendors.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to function as a team member within the department and the health system.
- Ability to operate pharmacy information systems and personal computer applications as required
