University of Pittsburgh Physicians is currently hiring a Regular, Full-Time Research Associate to support the general surgery/surgical oncology robotic lab at UPMC. This position is responsible for aiding the systemwide surgical robotics program. This position is accountable for the effective operation of the robotics lab. This is done through leadership, knowledge of present and future trends, data analysis, strategic benchmarking and innovative thinking.
Assist in the execution of research protocols and services.
Responsibilities:
Develops and maintains productive working relationships internally and externally by building relationships facilitating stakeholder involvement in use of the lab.
Establishes, maintains and fosters cooperative relationships that are sensitive to the needs and concerns of both internal and external users of the robotics lab
Edit videos that have been recorded of surgeons performing drills to focus on key points of the procedures. Upload videos (training and edited/reviewed videos) and curriculum onto a web-based curriculum delivery system
Provides advice to operational management to improve participant access and throughput for trainees. Assists management with the development and/or review of program expenses, pricing, utilization data, and national benchmarking information.
Prepares surgical biotissue drills for on-site training as well as for individuals that needed offsite.
Help with training of external surgeons on robotic platform as well as work with internal stakeholders to create a training program that is appropriate for external surgeons (UPMC Center for Advanced Robotic Training-CART-Courses)
Become familiar with existing as well as new robotic platforms that are available to UPMC surgeons.
Assist in robotic research data collection, data entry, grant writing proposals, and quality control of data for assigned research projects.
Review curriculum with on-site surgeons as well as those at other UPMC hospitals
Maintain inventory of surgical biotissue as well as needed disposables, including timely ordering and receipt of required supplies, proper storage of supplies and shipment of supplies to off-site hospitals systems.
Performs in accordance with system-wide competencies/behaviors
- Contact and schedule potential participants from a designated pool of individuals who have agreed to be contacted for research studies.
- Conduct subject searches to locate subjects who are unable to be contacted.
- Explain research protocol and obtain informed consent from participants.
- Conduct on-line and/or library searches as needed by the PI as necessary.
- Perform phone interviews for research project protocol(s) as needed.
- Maintain and update subject information database.
- Conduct interviews with research participants under supervision as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in psychology, neuroscience, counseling, sociology or related research field or current enrollment in a related Bachelor's Degree program with direct experience in a research environment required.
- Familiarity with computers and common software packages required
- Prior related work experience in a research setting preferred
- Working knowledge of research methodology strongly preferred
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively create relationships with physicians, staff and hospital personnel including senior management in both written and verbal communication preferred
- Strong organizational and time management skills, computer competency and proficiency in Excel, Windows and Word applications, basic video editing preferred
