Dietitian II - UPMC McKeesport

UPMC McKeesport is currently looking to hire a fulltime Dietician II to work varied day shifts, mainly 8 am - 4:30 p.m.  This position will also work rotating weekends and holidays.


Purpose:
To provide a high level of nutrition-related expertise in the interdisciplinary team management of all hospitalized patients.

Responsibilities:
  • As required, knowledgeable about outpatient billing guidelines and performs necessary documentation to ensure compliance of client charges with regulatory requirements.
  • Provide in-servicing or CEU opportunities to the multidisciplinary team at the department or facility level.
  • Formulate a Nutrition Diagnosis and identify Malnutrition through application of Nutrition Focused Physical Assessment and the nationally established criteria for identification of malnutrition.
  • Appropriate execution of order writing as governed by the Dietitian Delegation Order system protocol.
  • Provide appropriate nutritional education and counseling based upon patient/family learning needs and abilities.
  • Demonstrate effective communication methods as a collaborative member of the interdisciplinary care team.
  • Mentor and train dietetic students, interns and support personnel and provide feedback for student and program improvement.
  • Provide timely interventions as determined by Nutrition Risk level and the Plan of Care.
  • Provide quality patient care to diverse patient populations using Medical Nutrition Therapy to include assessment, goals and plan of care.
  • Lead one department initiative/professional contribution through to completion annually with the ability to actively endorse evidence based practice.
  • Accountable as nutrition liaison/expert to assigned units & participate as a member of interdisciplinary committees, responding to needs and initiatives for nutrition care process improvement.
  • As required, demonstrate professional writing skills adaptable to all health literacy levels in preparing materials, presentations and other communications
  • Oversee in the diet office as needed
  • Provide nutritional recommendations to physicians in order section
  • Writes modified diets as needed
  • Conducts in-service and/or presentation for staff and community. Participant in nutrition programs
  • Participates in weekly interdisciplinary patient care plan meetings as required by the facility
  • Performs calorie counts and documents intake appropriately in the medical record
  • Complete consults within 48 hours of receiving them
  • Performs quality improvement initiative as appropriate
  • Plans, directs and provides nutrition care for all ages
  • Assess, determine, and maintain nutritional requirements of tube feeding and TPN patients
  • Visits and interviews patients/residents upon admission and on a regular basis thereafter to obtain information regarding a food habit, preferences, dislikes, allergies, and for guidance in planning the patient's/resident's diet.
  • Do follow ups in a timely manner
  • Identify patients that fall into the malnutrition or weight categories for DRG
  • Follow clinical nutrition policies established for your UPMC facility
  • Knowledgeable of current enteral and oral formulary products used at your UPMC facility and appropriate substitutions.
  • Help with the clinical workload when someone is off

Qualifications

  • B.S. in Nutrition and Dietetics degree with 3 years clinical nutrition experience as a registered dietitian 
  • OR Masters in Nutrition and Dietetics with 1 year clinical nutrition experience as a registered dietitian required.
  • Analytical skills to accurately assess, plan, and evaluate outcomes.  Interpersonal skills to effectively interact with a diverse population and collaborate in a team environment.
  • Strong nutrition education/counseling and mentoring skills.
  • Critical thinking skills for sound decision making.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Registered Dietitian with Commission on Dietetic Registration or registry eligible with employment contingent upon passing the RD examination within 6 months of date of hire.
  • Licensed Dietitian Nutritionist (LDN)
  • Act 34
  • OAPSA
