The System Nursing Resources (SNR) team; part of UPMC Corporate Services is actively seeking experienced Obstetrics (OB) RNs interested in joining our nursing team.
Our full time RN staff, known as the OB Nursing SWAT team, travel to various UPMC facilities as needed for typically six week assignments. These nurses work in OB units within a hospital to support patient care during leaves of absences, for high volume coverage, or to support the unit while vacancies are filled. SWAT nurses function as an integral part of the assigned OB unit’s team, working a variety of shifts and assignments.
System Nursing Resources (SNR) SWAT team positions receive full-time benefits as well as increased compensation @ $40.60/hr with an additional $1-3 an hour shift differential to reward their flexibility. While on assignments in our many UPMC facilities our nurses gain rare, impressive, and highly desirable professional experiences and build widely varied skill sets.
The SWAT RN-OB Nurse will be utilized to fill shifts in all OB areas of high need. SWAT OB Nurses must be willing to work at all UPMC facilities that offer delivery services which include but not limited to: Magee-Women's Hospital, Northwest, Hamot, and Horizon. SWAT OB Nurses must be willing to work and accept regular rotational assignments as determined by a SWAT team supervisor.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and lead others in application of nursing.
- Constructively receive feedback and direction Identify and communicates learning needs to appropriate manager.
- Serve as a resource for staff and other disciplines.
- Take action to improve knowledge, skills and performance based on feedback or on self-identified developmental needs. Prior to performing new or challenging skills, requests assistance and reviews relevant policies and procedures.
- Maintain critical thinking skills, analytical and problem solving abilities as related to various aspects of patient care.
- Cultivate professional relationships and communication in the clinical environment.
- Maintain contact availability for schedule changes when needed.
- Must be flexible in scheduling to the requirements of the unit assigned.
- Utilize nursing process in managing the care of patients including assessment, interdisciplinary planning, implementation, evaluation of patient care, teaching and discharge planning.
- Provide basic psychosocial support and counseling.
- Establish appropriate, assertive and professional communication strategies.
- Communicate patient's condition to physician and other key members of the health care team.
- Coordinate interdepartmental activities to expedite care.
- Contribute to the universal unit activities, including but not limited to responding to call lights and telephone, passing meal trays and patient transports.
- Participate in quality improvement activities.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated competence in professional nursing practice required.
- Two years nursing experience with one year in OB labor and delivery experience required.
- Must be able to pass all UPMC required testing for Registered Nurses.

- Annual competencies at Magee Women's Hospital of UPMC
- SWAT Nurses must agree to be available to work 72 hours in a bi-weekly pay period and will follow the scheduling requirements of the unit assigned.

- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
- PA Registered Nurse (RN)
- Act 33 with renewal
- Act 34 with renewal
- Act 73 FBI Clearance
- OAPSA
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
