Respiratory Therapist-Tier I

UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital is seeking a Casual Respiratory Therapist – Tier I!

 

This position will work rotating shifts and must meet the hour requirements as outlined in the department contract. Hours are subject to change based on business needs.

 

We can consider CRT or RRT. The final title and pay will be determined by education, experience, and certifications.

 

Magee Women’s Hospital of UPMC is a world class center for both women’s health and comprehensive medical-surgical care. This facility has one of the largest Neonatal Intensive Care Units in the country and has expanded the hospital’s clinical area to males, with an understanding of their own special health care needs. Magee has a full-service Emergency Department and services including imaging, cardiology, orthopedic surgery, lupus, gastro-enterology, colorectal surgery, pulmonology, and urology.

 

The Respiratory Therapist – Tier I Administers respiratory therapy care and life support to patients with deficiencies and abnormalities of cardiopulmonary system, under supervision of physician and by prescription.

Responsibilities:

  • Order repairs when needed.
  • Demonstrate respiratory care procedures to trainees and other health care personnel.
  • Operate equipment to ensure specified parameters of treatment, such as volume, gas concentration, humidity, and temperature, and to administer medicinal gases and aerosol drugs to patients.
  • Read prescription, measures arterial blood gases, and reviews patient information to assess patient condition and determine requirements for treatment, such as type and duration of therapy, and medication dosages.
  • Inspect and tests respiratory therapy equipment to ensure equipment is functioning safely and efficiently.
  • Observe equipment function and adjusts equipment to obtain optimum results to therapy.
  • Set up and operates devices, such as mechanical ventilators, therapeutic gas administration apparatus, environmental control systems, and aerosol generators.
  • Monitor patient's physiological responses to therapy, such as vital signs, arterial blood gases, and blood chemistry changes.
  • Assists to transport mechanically ventilated patients.
  • Determine most suitable method of administering inhalants, precautions to be observed, and modifications which may be needed that will be compatible with physician's orders.
  • Supervises students during training.
  • Maintain patient's chart that contains pertinent identification and therapy information.
  • Responds to all code situations.
  • Perform bronchopulmonary drainage and assists patient in performing breathing exercises.
  • Perform pulmonary function tests to be used by physician in diagnosis of case.
  • Consults with physician in event of adverse reactions.

Qualifications

  • Graduate of an AMA approved school for Respiratory Care (AS or BS degree preferred) and is currently Certified/Registry Eligible by the National Board for Respiratory Care.
  • Must hold a current certification in one and two-person adult and infant CPR from the AHA or a comparable agency. 

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances: 

  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Certified Respiratory Therapy Technician (CRTT)
  • Certified Respiratory Therapy Technician (CRTT) OR Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT)
  • Osteopathic Respiratory Care OR Respiratory Care Practitioners (RCP)
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance
