UPMC's Center for Emergency Medicine is hiring a full-time Clinical Coordinator to support the Education Department in instructing students, programming, and more. With your EMS background and passion for teaching, this may be an excellent fit for you!


The Clinical Coordinator instructs, directs, and supervises students in the clinical portion of the Paramedic Education Program at the Center for Emergency Medicine. The Clinical Coordinator assists the Program Director with curriculum development and course content specifications, and also conducts formal lecture and laboratory education. They perform a full range of professional teaching duties including independent responsibility for administering the clinical portion of the program. They teach various program courses, coordinate, and evaluate students' clinical experience and advises students.  They plan and carry out work assignments using judgment in applying professional principles and guidelines, with established policies and broadly defined procedures.

  • Maintain student records.
  • Assist in the recruitment of potential students (open house programs, school visits, interviews).
  • Distribute, collect, and review student clinical evaluation forms.
  • Provide reports on student progress to Program Director, Administrative Director, Program Medical Director, and students.
  • Pursue continuing education in professional practice and instructional methodology.
  • Maintain current knowledge of program standards and participate in evaluation of program effectiveness.
  • Correlate clinical education with didactic education.
  • Administer the existing clinical program policies.
  • Pursue research related activities to support the clinical and educational practices related to EMS education.
  • Evaluate and discuss clinical evaluation forms with the student.
  • Track student performance related to hours and terminal performance objectives.
  • Maintain professional relationship with all preceptors and clinical site administrators.
  • Responsible for orientation of students to clinical policies, procedures, sites and requirements.
  • Prepare and coordinate clinical rotation schedules.
  • Participate in program staff meetings on a routine basis to recommend and implement changes in didactic and clinical course schedule as necessary.
  • Develop new clinical opportunities and relationships to enhance the clinical capabilities of the program.
  • Evaluate the students clinical ability in accordance with the program established criteria.
  • Serve as a liaison between precepting sites, and students.
  • Establish and maintain office hours to see students and discuss their progress. 
  • Maintain records of student encounters and file as part of student's permanent record.
  • Provide monthly progress reports to the Director of Education.


  • A current certification from the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania as an EMT-Paramedic.
  • Current American Heart Association BLS and ACLS certification.
  • A minimum of three (3) years experience working as a paramedic in a clinical and educational setting.
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical examination.
  • Certification as an EMT-Instructor preferred.
  • Certification as an instructor in ACLS, BTLS, CPR, AMLS3 preferred. 
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse preferred.
  • A master's degree from an accredited institution preferred.
  • Competent in MS Office applications.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
