Description
Purpose:
Oversees Volunteer Services staff, adult volunteers, and student volunteers including summer volunteers and co-op volunteers at three campuses. In addition, provides guidance, support, resources and tools to staff who supervise volunteers in departments across the health system. Develops and implements goals and objectives for staff and volunteers which align with system mission and goals. Identifies current and emerging volunteer management trends and issues, which impacts management priorities, process development, compliance, and department budget development. Is responsible for assessing, implementing and evaluating the needs of the UPMC Pinnacle staff as they relate to available volunteers while ensuring that volunteer allocation is appropriate for organizational needs. Conducts ongoing evaluation of the programs and services delivered by volunteers and implements improvements. Collaborates with the Community Initiatives Staff to ensure efficient use of resources and provide quality outcomes.
Responsibilities:
- Daily activities involve interaction with wide variety of individuals within UPMC Pinnacle and local community. Must understand and sensitive to diverse cultural populations.
- Influences positive behavior in others by serving as role model in critical areas of human interaction, teamwork, and leadership. Is expected to work effectively with management and supervisory personnel to promote effective leadership practices and achieve organizational goals.
- Demonstrates knowledge of the roles, responsibilities, and areas of need for volunteer services throughout the UPMC Pinnacle.
- Employs effective communication and collaboration within UPMC Pinnacle and the community to recruit volunteers, develop strong volunteer roles, and train both volunteers and staff to best utilize this resource.
- Participate in strategic planning at departmental and organizational levels
- Lead financial management and budgeting initiatives.
- Empowers staff to implement the programs and processes effectively; supports and encourage critical thinking, flexibility, innovation, professional growth, open communication, and collaborative relationships.
- Manages department workload by establishing priorities and delegating effectively as appropriate.
- Serves on system and community committees as related to volunteer services.
- Advances professional growth and development through participation in formal and informal educational opportunities and networking activities.
- Represents UPMC Pinnacle at professional Volunteer Services organizations at the state and national levels.
- Effectively utilizes marketing strategies to reach and recruit applicants for volunteer service.
- Work effectively with public relations and marketing to develop strategies for outreach activities.
- Monitor and ensure that volunteer annual education competency is met.
- Manages and supervises staff through hiring and evaluation practices and coordination of staff competencies.
- Develops and controls staff and operational budget.
- Develops and manages processes to ensure compliance with UPMC Pinnacle state and federal regulations as they pertain to volunteers.
- Develops budgets for volunteer program activities.
- Conducts ongoing evaluation of the programs and services delivered by staff and volunteers and implement improvements as necessary.
- Develops, administers, and reviews policies and procedures which guide the volunteer programs and services.
- Develops and administers forms and records to document the volunteer activities.
- Provides required monthly, quarterly, and annual reports for Director and Vice President including strategic goals and objectives and community benefits inventory.
- Develop volunteer position descriptions.
- Oversee process for conducting volunteer screening (interviews, required background checks, etc.) and matching volunteers to organizational needs and opportunities.
- Oversees staff that develops and evaluates training and orientation for volunteers.
- Plan and implement volunteer recognition events and initiatives.
- Conduct database management and tracking of volunteer statistics.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree required.
- Minimum 5 years of volunteer services experience required.
- Experience in program development, implementation, and evaluation.
- Minimum 3-5 years of management experience required.
- Work with diverse populations Cultural sensitivity and people-skills (written and oral) are vital.
- Conflict management skills
- Ability to work both independently and as a member of a larger staff team
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Clearances must be dated within 90 days
