Associate Director, Radiation Oncology

Description

The Associate Director of Radiation Oncology is responsible for the leadership and management of Radiation Oncology sites for the UPMC CancerCenter at the Shadyside Campus. Responsibilities include the management of clinical operations, continuing education, quality assurance/CQI, and regulatory affairs. The Associate Director identifies opportunities to improve patient safety and participates in projects and programs designed to reduce errors, improve processes, and to create a mindfulness culture for patient safety. In the absence of the Sr. Director, the Associate Director assumes responsibilities.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Coordinates the operations of the joint venture-based UPMC Cancer Center Radiation Oncology sites.
  • Monitors operating statistics and patterns to identify trends and changes across sites as well as the external environment.
  • Develops/Implements/Administers network policies and procedures to standardize quality patient care at each site.
  • Assesses personnel and equipment needs and makes recommendations for changes based on fact and financial return.
  • Conducts regularly-scheduled site meetings and keeps staff well-informed and answers questions without delay.
  • Manages effectively through others by establishing predetermined goals and objectives. Utilizes techniques for inspecting results in a consistent and reportable manner.
  • Responsible for equipment and service procurement/contracting.
  • Works collaboratively with the IT Department to implement maintain and monitor the EMR.
  • Participate in Quality Oversite Committee as a productive member supporting the Director of Quality, Patient Experience and Regulatory in initiatives associate with the Quality program
  • Supports all quality and regulatory activities at all sites. Including CQI projects, goals and objectives for improvement, and results utilizing benchmarks/score card.
  • Works collaborative with Radiation Oncologists and Managers to maintain high standards for the planning and delivery of radiation therapy. Prioritizes patient safety.
  • Responsible for operating each site to budgeted fiscal goals.
  • Monitors and analyzes financial performance, including profitability and volume metrics. Implements appropriate changes to increase efficiencies, enhance revenue, and control expenses.
  • Maintains FTEs at budgeted levels or can justify increases/decreases based on site volumes.
  • Oversees new construction, renovation projects, and business utilization. Assess existing needs and plans for new programs to meet the site's needs.
  • Assesses learning needs of staff utilizing surveys, QA Program Results, and feedback from Radiation Oncologists.
  • Supports the Director of Quality, Patient Experience and Regulatory by Implements or coordinates training programs to meet the needs of the staff.
  • Supports Continuing Education to enable the staff to earn required education credits.
  • Supports TJC, ACRO, and Department of Health compliance activities and ensures continuous site readiness for inspections and surveys for all sites.
  • Acts as a liaison to clinical engineering regarding the maintenance of all equipment.

Qualifications

  • Graduate Degree in health care or equivalent 
  • 5-7 years of progressive management experience.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills necessary.


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • ARRT Registration in good standing or Board Eligibility within six months of hire, preferred.
