Description

The Fertility Preservation Program of UPMC was established in 2010 to meet the unique and urgent fertility care needs of patients who were at risk of infertility due to their disease or medical treatments. Those patients required a new streamlined, multidisciplinary approach to fertility preservation care in the compressed timeframe between diagnosis and treatment. The mission has expanded over the past decade to include a comprehensive menu of standard and experimental fertility preservation options for patients who are at risk of infertility due to age, genetics and disease as well as medical treatments for cancer, bone marrow transplantation, gender dysphoria, autoimmune diseases, differences in sexual development and others.

The Program Coordinator is the first point of contact for the patients and providers seeking fertility preservation advice and services; they do the initial intake and determine research study eligibility, consent participants, and coordinate fertility preservation and infertility research/clinical care services. They manage all research study protocols including IRB maintenance and modifications, and perform research benchwork to support clinical research studies. They collect and record participant and patient data and maintain databases. The program coordinators are the face of the program and are critical to our outreach and education efforts locally, nationally and internationally.
