UPMC Cancer Centers is hiring a full-time Physician Assistant or Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner to help support the Hillman Cancer Center. This position will primarily work at Shadyside but will also travel to all cancer centers locations as needed. This position will work Monday through Friday with the occasional weekend, only if there is a special APP event. The director is responsible to support the inpatient predominately at UPMC Shadyside and is not responsible for routine direct patient care.

Purpose:
This position reports to the Vice President, Medical Oncology Services, COO, UPMC CancerCenter. Advanced Practice Provider APP are defined as primarily as Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists, Certified Registered Nurse Practitioners, Physician Assistants, Nurse Mid-Wives and other advanced non-physician providers.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Provide operations support for APP's, physician collaborators/supervisors, and administration, as well as, departmental and practice management. Collaborate with physicians and administrative leadership to redefine the role of APP's within the CC. Define and support APP programs to optimize clinical and financial benefit, compliance, and risk management.
  • Oversee all APP's with UPMC CC network, both hospital and community based.Create and report key working productivity metrics to Medical Oncology Operations Committee and CC Leadership.Ensures all APP's are credentialed and in good standing at all times.
  • Manage affiliations with APP schools and training programs. Manage UPMC-based clinical experiences for APP students. Manage educational opportunities for UPMC employed APP's.
  • Represent UPMC administration to APPs, State and Federal Boards and Associations, and APP educational and training programs. Direct and motivate clinical and administrative staff to support and execute upon the goals and initiatives defined in support APP programs.
  • Assist the Vice President Medical Oncology and COO UPMC CC in managing the in managing the CC APP's.
  • Analyze developments within the APP disciplines, including changes in Commonwealth and Federal programs and regulations, accrediting organizations, etc.
  • Establish and maintain systems policies and procedures defining APP and physician collaborators/supervisor activities and responsibilities. Develop and implement standardized privileging and scope of practice for APPs Assist the VP Medical Oncology and CC Administration in developing and managing focused recruitment and retention programs for APP's.
  • Assist CC Leadership in more fully integrating APP's operations, compensation, and associated policies and procedures into the UPMC organizational structure. Serve on the UPMC CC Operations Committee council under the direction of the VP Medical Oncology

Qualifications

  • Handle multiple/changing priorities and specialized equipment 
  • Critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving abilities required as related to various aspects of patient care 
  • Good clinical judgment 
  • Critical thinking skills necessary to exercise and lead others in application of acceptable standards of practice 
  • Mobility and visual manual dexterity 
  • Physical stamina for frequent walking, standing, lifting and positioning of patients 

This position is dependent upon successful attainment and maintenance of hospital privileges, if applicable to the Business Unit practice. 
 

Licensure, Education, Certifications, and Clearances 

 CRNP:  

  • The successful completion of an approved nurse practitioner program is required 
  • BSN, MSN is preferred 
  • Professional nursing experience and/or nurse practitioner experience is preferred 
  • Current state RN license and CRNP certification are required 
  • National certification, eligible for licensure by Pennsylvania board of nursing, eligible for certification as a CRNP by Pennsylvania state board of nursing 
  • Current CPR certification is required 
  • Act 34 Clearance required 

 PA:  

  • A graduate of a physician assistant program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the physician assistant (ARC-PA) is required 
  • BS or MS candidate is preferred 
  • Experience as a physician assistant and/or experience in a clinical setting is preferred 
  • Current state PA license certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) is required 
  • Current CPR certification is required 
  • Act 34 Clearance required
