Description

UPMC Pinnacle is hiring a casual Project Coordinator, Laboratory. This person will serve as a backup for all the lab supervisors and aid them in any projects that require immediate completion for inspection purposes.
 
Purpose:
Serves a dual role as Supervisor of the Routine Clinical Laboratory and Operations Manager for the Laboratory, in general. As Supervisor, this individual is responsible for directing the technical, human, and material resource components of the Routine Clinical Laboratory department. The responsibilities of supervisor consist of assisting and supporting the entire Laboratory managerial staff in their collective efforts toward the achievement of excellence, guided by the accrediting agencies, customers, needs, and internal assessments; implementing changes to procedures in order to procure phlebotomy specimens in timely and accurate fashion. Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to assess, treat and care for patients according to age-specific needs. The Laboratory Operations Manager component of the position requires the individual to assist the Director in planning, designing, and implementing the operational aspects of the Laboratory. In addition, the Operations Manager is responsible for representing the Director upon his/her delegation.

Responsibilities:
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Ability to indirectly and directly contribute to PinnacleHealth System objectives by providing interpretative, advisory, or facilitating services to other departments and services for the purpose of developing or implementing programs. Such departments may include, but are not limited to, Human Resources, Finance Department, Learning Institute, Health Information, Housekeeping, Security, Nursing, Admissions, Patient Access, and Materials Management. Ability to understand and make decisions which interrelate and agree with the PinnacleHealth System mission.
  • Responsible for representing the Director upon his/her delegation.
  • Assists the Director in planning, designing, and implementing the operational aspects of the Laboratory.
  • All responsibilities of the Routine Clinical Laboratory Supervisor, as listed above.
  • Demonstrates initiative by proactively recognizing areas for improvement and exercises creativity for implementing change.
  • Provides technical consultation and direction to all employees in the Routine Clinical Laboratory.
  • Prepares and monitors statistical, operating, personnel, and capital budgets for the Routine Clinical Laboratory. Investigates and attempts to resolve variances to the budget. Uses discipline to maintain the budget within expected guidelines.
  • Establishes and maintains solid working relationships with superiors and peers by attending and participating in meetings, task forces, and other organizational programs.
  • Communicates effectively with all levels of the organizational structure when appropriate.
  • Possesses and maintains a working knowledge of all technologies employed in the department. Ensures that patient results are accurate and precise. Possesses and maintains knowledge of administrative aspects of the position such as System policies and procedures and regulatory accreditation requirements.
  • Organizes the operations of the department by maintaining and scheduling appropriate staff to meet the workload demands of the section, including, daily work assignments and emergency or unexpected situations as they may arise. Maintains current procedure manuals. Ensures that adequate supplies are available. Is responsible for budgeting for the resource needs of the department.
  • Demonstrates solid decision-making skills, thoroughly examines the alternatives available based on a logical analysis of the potential impact of each decision.
  • Performs tasks with a high degree of accuracy and completeness. Tasks are performed in a timely manner and according to established policies, procedures, and practices.

Qualifications

MT(ASCP) or equivalent certification, and 6 years Laboratory experience in a supervisory position are required. Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Specialist certification in a Laboratory discipline Master's degree is preferred.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Clearances must be dated within 90 days

  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
