Research Associate


The Research Associate will work on a large, longitudinal research study, the Pittsburgh Girls Study (PGS) under the direction of Dr. Alison Hipwell and Dr. Kate Keenan. In this NIH-funded study, a sample of 2,450 girls from the City of Pittsburgh has been followed annually for 19 years to track developmental patterns of psychopathology and contexts of influence. As part of a new project examining lifetime stress exposure on pregnancy and child health (PGS-ECHO), we are now also following a subsample of 800 PGS participants and their offspring.

ThThis position is grant funded.

  • Contact and schedule potential participants from a designated pool of individuals who have agreed to be contacted for research studies
  • Conduct subject searches to locate subjects who are unable to be contacted
  • Explain research protocol and obtain informed consent from participants.
  • Conduct on-line and/or library searches as needed by the PI as necessary
  • Perform phone interviews for research project protocol(s) as needed
  • Maintain and update subject information database
  • Conduct face-to-face interviews in the research lab
  • Administer standardized experimental stress paradigms and collecting psychophysiological data
  • Assist in coding observational data and conducting developmental assessments for children (6 -36 months)


  • Bachelors Degree in psychology, neuroscience, counseling, sociology or related research field or current enrollment in a related Bachelor's Degree program with direct experience in a research environment required.
  • One year work or volunteer experience in a psychology or psychiatry research preferred
  • Familiarity with computers and common software packages required
  • Prior related work experience in a research setting preferred
  • Working knowledge of research methodology strongly preferred

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance
