Description

UPMC Health Plan is hiring a temporary Leave & Disability Technician to help support the Absence Management Department for its downtown Pittsburgh location at the US Steel Tower. 


This position will assist in the day to day operations of the Short Term Disability Team, Disability Management Team and the Leave Administration Team by providing administrative/clerical support.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Responsible for generating copies of files as requested for the Appeal process or following legal requests
  • Assists with special projects
  • Approval/Denial correspondence, Satisfaction Survey Letters, Delay Letters, Denial Letters, etc. with direction from the Specialist assigned the specific case
  • Assists with outreach attempts to providers offices and to managers to verify RTW status as directed
  • Assists in answering incoming telephone calls; directs callers to the appropriate team member [Leave Specialist, Disability Specialist, Disability Management Coordinator or Supervisor] as needed
  • Set-up new cases in the case management systems as needed
  • Responsible for requesting medical records from treating providers by mail or fax as directed by the Specialist assigned the case
  • Assists with data entry into the Leave Management and Accommodations data bases to enter historic leave records and updated time records
  • Assists Intake calls receipt as needed during high volume periods
  • Responsible for the generation and quality checking of multiple types of correspondence related to various departmental needs including: Initial Information Packets, Medical requests, Medical Certification forms,
  • Retrieves and mails out checks for payments for medical records received as needed
  • Responsible for the management of the correspondence for the STD, Leave and Vocational teams
  • Send employee satisfaction surveys via e-mail and regular mail as directed by Supervisor
  • Generate the packet of medical information to be transferred to LTD carrier as needed
  • Responsible for monitoring the team Service email Accounts for multiple lines of business and directing inquiries to the appropriate team member or supervisor
  • Responsible for the distribution of faxes to the appropriate STD and Disability Management Team Member
  • Responsible for the accurate and timely electronic storage of miscellaneous correspondence into the document management system

 

Qualifications

  • High school graduate required, Associates or Bachelors degree preferred
  • A minimum of one to three years of administrative experience or related experience preferred
  • Prior Leave of Absence processing experience is highly preferred
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, disability and leave management preferred
  • Skills include: Excellent organizational skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate clearly by telephone
  • Demonstrates strong data entry and typing skills Ability to understand complex oral and written directions and technical information
  • Displays a strong customer service focusAbility to use and navigate web based software programs and Microsoft Office products [Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.]
