Description
UPMC Northwest is a Student Behavioral Associate position is in a limited part-time position, assists in the provision of medical and psychiatric patient care. You'll receive practical experience relevant to your education track /career goals.Responsibilities:
- Assists the nurse and other direct care staff in the provision of physical care and clinical intervention as assessed by client needs.
- Learns and utilizes up-to-date technology and practices in the delivery of patient care.
- Encourages patients to perform or assists them in the performance of activities of daily living.
- Documents in the medical record according to established policies.
- Takes initiative to ensure that unit environment is maintained..
- Maintains a safe and therapeutic environment.
- Manage crisis situations effectively using positive approaches.
- Participate in interdisciplinary meetings and other activities.
- Attend a minimum of 1 unit based of Institute wide in-service yearly.
- Maintains on-going communication with the treatment team and charge nurse regarding observations of patients? medical and behavioral symptoms and the care provided.
Qualifications
- Current full-time enrollment in an accredited school in healthcare related baccalaureate (Psychology, Counseling, Biology, or related field)
- Current full-time enrollment in a diploma, associate, or bachelor level nursing program.
- Must be available and agree to work weekends and holidays. Must be able to work overtime as required by WPIC.
- May in the course of their job duties be in rooms where medications are stored. No contact with medications is allowed.
- In the course of duties may be asked to distribute medications to the nurse at the bedside.
- Access to medications is limited to the distribution of the medication to the nurse.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hireCCM training is required within 30 days of hire and annually thereafter
