Serves as receptionist for the Radiation/Oncology Department; transcribes reports; types other material from prepared copy, i.e., requisitions; files reports, authorizations, patient cards and other related material; prepares x-ray film folders for interpretation and for filing purposes.
Responsibilities:
- Answers telephone promptly and courteously and maintains free flowing accurate communications.
- Performs any other office related functions that would be appropriate for a secretary in the Department.
- Files reports, correspondences and other related material accurately, efficiently, and in a timely manner onto patient's chart.
- Performs typing/transcription of patient records and all other departmental documents and correspondence in a timely, efficient and accurate manner.
- Serves in capacity as receptionist in Department, including receiving of patients, visitors, and other guests and making sure they are handled in timely and proper manner.
- Maintains the patient medical records by keeping them neat, current, properly assembled and stored in proper place.
- Sorts and distributes incoming mail to appropriate department personnel in a timely and accurate manner.
- Accurately and efficiently charges patients account by use of a hospital computer system.
- Takes and delivers messages and relays calls and messages in a timely and accurate manner.
- Makes copies of reports as requested and forwards to requesting individual, department or physician.
- Demonstrates knowledge and ability to adapt to clinical treatment and instructional aspect of care to all stages of the life cycle and to various stages of health and disease.
Qualifications
Education and Formal Training Required:- High school graduate.
- Must be a graduate of a Medical Secretarial Program.
- Two years previous work experience in a medical office setting dealing with physicians/public/patients in the position of a medical secretary/receptionist.
