A Prevention Education Specialist provides drug and alcohol education in local schools and communities utilizing an evidence-based curriculum, and actively participates in the Student Assistant Program in schools with Tioga County. Please review more of the responsibilities below!

This full-time position will work Monday through Friday, day shift (8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.) with occasional evenings and Saturdays.   • Actively participate in the Communities That Care workgroup.
  • Provide community outreach education at events throughout Tioga county.
  • Know and follow all organizational/departmental policies/procedures.
  • Actively practice behaviors associated with SH Service Excellence expectations.

  • Be an ambassador for UPMC Susquehanna. Provide the best C.A.R.E. for our patients no matter what.
  • Assume responsibility for personal development and education.
  • Schedule and implement prevention education in classrooms for the local school districts in Tioga County.
  • Participate in Student Assistant Teams (SAP) in all schools in Tioga County to determine the best approaches in assisting at-risk students.
  • Meet with school administrators to formalize an agreement to provide prevention education in the classroom.
  • Work with curriculum developers to become certified to teach selected courses.
  • Incorporate leading/evidence-based practice in quality/safety into everyday work. Commit to high quality, safe work; encourage others to have similar standards.
  • Identify processes/systems that could lead to inefficient practices, unsafe conditions, errors or adverse events.
  • Avoid shortcuts to ensure quality and safety measures are not circumvented. Encourage patient and family involvement in processes involving patient safety.
  • Speak up with other service partners to ensure high quality and safety.
  • Report serious events/incidents per policy.
  • Complete required reporting as required by funder; including online data submission and narrative summary reports to Tioga County Department of Human Services.


  • Bachelors degree in Education, Social Work, Psychology or related field required.
  • Two years' experience with public speaking and effective project management required.
  • Prior teaching experience preferred.

  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
