Description

The OB technician is an essential member of the Pinnacle Health System health care team. Provides indirect patient care and provides for a functional environment for patient, visitors, and employees. The OB technician recognizes the importance of interpersonal skills in delivery of service to internal and external customers. The OB technician contributes to activities that improve the performance of clinical services. The OB technician functions under the supervision, direction, and guidance of the professional registered nurse. The essential duties of this role include:a. Demonstrates commitment to and support of the mission, vision and values of the Pinnacle Health System and the plan for provision of patient care.b. Completes unit specific educational requirements as well as system-required fire, safety, and emergency procedures.c. Provides care and performs duties in accordance with Employee Standards of Conduct.d. Supports the essential process of improving and sustaining performance.e. Complies with current infection control practices and utilizes standard precautions.f. Complies with all policies and procedures.g. Maintains patient confidentiality.

Responsibilities:
  • The OB Technician as an empowered team member must be optimistic, enthusiastic, and able to communicate effectively with all levels of personnel. Must work collaboratively with all members of the Patient Care Team and interacts with patients in a friendly, courteous manner. Treats each individual with respect and dignity and uses standards of patient satisfaction as a measure of effectiveness.
  • Secondary Duties: Patient transportation as assigned by the charge nurse. Transports lab specimens to the lab and insures that specimens are labeled appropriately. Transports equipment between departments. Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Customer Service: Demonstrates the highest degree of customer awareness by seeking out opportunities to identify and meet the needs of internal and external customers. Treats each person as an individual with respect and dignity. Is receptive to questions and criticism, and willing to offer assistance. Demonstrates genuine concern and empathy. Consistently performs all job duties in a friendly, courteous manner. Maintains accountability for patient and family satisfaction throughout the episode of care.
  • Environment and supplies Uses, maintains and cleans patient equipment according to procedure. Cleans patient rooms according to housekeeping guidelines. Stocks patient care areas with appropriate levels of supplies and equipment. Maintains patient safety by complying with safety standards. Responds appropriately to emergency situations. Maintains a clean, orderly patient environment. Maintains cleanliness of all transportation equipment. Refers patient concerns to the RN or Nurse Manager. Utilizes proper body mechanics. Maintains organization and supplies in the pantry area. Performs quality checks as assigned.
  • Clerical Duties: Communicates complete patient information and messages to all health team members via available information systems. Serves as a unit resource for operating procedures both intra- and interdepartmentally. Maintains the patient?s medical records in appropriate order. Notifies appropriate person and departments of patient admission, discharge or transfer. Maintains accurate records of unit activity. Is skilled in the use of the information system. Maintains organization of work area. Provides prompt, courteous reception to all patients, visitors, and hospital personnel on the unit. Promptly and courteously answers telephone and patient call lights. Accurately places order in computer. Schedules tests/procedures and faxes schedule information to the appropriate department. Obtains charges for each patient. Obtains medical records as needed. Collates charts. Files prenatal records. Handles equipment appropriately; maintains equipment and initiates repairs/replacement as needed.
  • Patient Care Duties: Functions as a scrub technician for surgeries in the Labor and Delivery surgical arena. Assists with admission, transfer, and discharge procedures .Provides for patient?s personal hygiene needs. Collects specimens according to protocol. Performs bedside glucose testing. Collects, records and reports accurate data including vital signs in a timely fashion. Communicates accurate patient information to other members of the healthcare team in a timely manner. Assists the patients with activity and mobility. Assists patient with comfort measures. Assists the patient with ambulation after surgery or procedure .Assists the patient with dietary needs including feeding and meals specific to the unique needs of the patient population. Demonstrates competency with procedures based on unit population age-specific needs.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent, language and writing skills essential to meet job requirements. 
  •  Basic computer skills required.  
  • Must successfully complete the established training course provided by PinnacleHealth.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
  • Healthcare experience preferred. 

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Clearances must be dated within 90 days

  • Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP)
  • Act 33 with renewal
  • Act 34 with renewal
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
