Lab Aide / Glass Washer

Description

UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital is seeking a Part-time Research Tech Clinical Research to support the Research Operations department!

This position will work daylight shifts. Hours are subject to change based on business needs.

This position is grant-funded.

The Lab Aide / Glass Washer will maintain, clean, and sterilize lab glassware.

Responsibilities:

  • Inspect items after removal from the drying oven.
  • Responsible for following the mandatory reporting procedures for any incident or serious event that did affect or potentially could affect laboratory results.
  • On a daily basis, collects laboratory materials (i.e., pipettes, jars, dishes, and other glassware), from each area of the Laboratory. Scrubs, washes and cleans items in accordance with prescribed techniques.
  • Maintain inventory of solutions and powders necessary to perform work.
  • Notify the Engineering and Maintenance Department of malfunctioning equipment and reports it to the supervisor. Report broken and chipped items.
  • Operate an autoclave for sterilization of infectious glassware, Petri dishes, tubes, etc.
  • Maintain clean and orderly work area.
  • Sort and deliver material to the appropriate lab.

 

Qualifications

  • High school diploma.
  • Ability to understand oral and written instructions.1 to 3 months of on-the-job training in special cleaning techniques, operation of autoclave, and proper disposal of waste and other duties is preferred.
  • Demonstrate the completion of the competencies required by the department/unit.
  • Knowledge and skills are necessary to provide care and/or interact appropriately to the ages of the patients served by his/her assigned unit as specified below required. Knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span required.
  • Ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to age-specific needs.
  • Provide the care needs as described in the department's policy and procedures.
