UPMC Health Plan is hiring a full-time Marketing Analyst - Associate to support the Marketing Communications Department in its downtown Pittsburgh location at the US Steel Tower. This is a Monday through Friday daylight position.  The team is currently working remotely due to COVID but will return to onsite work in the future.

The Marketing Analyst will create meaningful sets of data out of large databases and perform data analysis.  This role will write intensive code to execute database queries.  The ideal candidate will be proficient in SQL and R statistical programming language.  A technical background and strong Excel skills are key for the role.

The Marketing Analyst - Associate works with end users and marketing staff to identify problems and propose solutions.  This work includes maintaining project planning documents, preparing materials, writing and distributing workflow, and supporting objectives of UPMC Insurance Services Division Marketing & Communications.


  • Assist other departments during periods of backlogs.
  • Analyze and interpret various data sets including survey results, focus group notes, and 3rd-party sources
  • Assist in research objective setting with internal stakeholders and presenting research findings
  • Identify areas of concern that may compromise client satisfaction.
  • Openly participate in team meetings, provide ideas and suggestions to ensure client satisfaction, and promote teamwork.
  • Maintain employee/insured confidentiality.
  • Maintain project planning, model business requirements for new systems and enhancements to existing systems.
  • Create reports/presentations that best communicate accomplishments of objectives and summarize research findings
  • Assist in the definition, development, drafting and documentation of research requirements and research plans
  • Effectively prioritize and complete all assigned tasks.
  • Ability to analyze marketing campaign data requirements/issues to determine appropriate data inputs and outputs.
  • Assist in maintaining existing market automation and intelligence platform(s).
  • Work with users and developers to identify problems and propose solutions.
  • Participate in training programs as available/requested.


  • B.A. degree or equivalent work experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Math or Computer Science preferred.
  • 1 year of related experience required.
  • Knowledge of health care insurance or health care industry a plus.
  • Knowledge of SQL preferred.
  • R statistical programming language proficiency preferred. 
  • Microsoft Excel proficiency preferred.
  • Competent in MS Office, and PC skills preferred.
  • Organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills required.
