Director, Cardiology and Interventional Radiology Services

Description

Purpose:
Under the direction of the Clinical Director, Nursing Services, this position provides leadership level assistance in assigned areas of responsibility, in decision-making, leadership, and strategic planning. Ensures the efficient and productive use of personnel, supplies and materials, and financial resources in the delivery of cardiology services. Assists in the determination of the needs of the Department of Cardiology related to equipment replacement / procurement, business plan development, operating and capital budget preparation as well as the auditing of financial performance. Provides direction to the technical supervisors and/or managers related to Nursing, Nuclear Cardiology, EKG, Central Monitoring, Interventional Radiology Suites, Vascular, Echo Cardiology, and other entities as assigned. Responsible for assisting in the promotion and development of educational resource activities. Participates in team effectiveness in order to meet the goals and objectives of the department. Performs senior management responsibilities in the Department of Cardiology. Consults with physician leadership and the senior leader on matters of clinical operations. Organizes and plans one's daily activities in order to meet the performance goals set forth in their management expectations and performance evaluation program. Interacts with individuals within the medical facility as well as outside agencies concerning the provision of services. Interaction with customer service evident behavior related to nursing units, ancillary departments, Hospital Administration, Department of Health, state regulatory agencies, the Joint Commission and other specific regulatory or accreditation granting agencies is required. Provides leadership and decision-making to ensure efficient of department financial resources. Plans, directs, and monitors quality assurance programs to conform to federal, state, local, and clinical. guidelines.

Responsibilities:
  • Serve as a liaison with administrative functions related to Human Resources, Purchasing, Informatics, Finance, and Legal Issues related to Cardiology based services.
  • Oversees management and refinement of Information systems operations related to the cardiology functions.
  • Will be the hospital representative at the system level for the Cardiology service line.
  • Works with vendors in conjunction with Supply Chain Management on contractual issues, supply management and cost saving initiatives.
  • Creates management report to track timely processing of daily IP orders in imaging modalities.
  • Oversees management and refinement of cardiology information system (Imagecast/Echopacs/CVIS).
  • Provides strategic goals regarding the design of cardiology data reports for the benefit of improving patient care, generating statistics and optimizing charge capture and revenue.
  • Interacts with physician offices to assure service expectations are met.
  • Protects the integrity and confidentiality of all information.
  • Identifies with key concepts in financial operations and identifies trends accordingly
  • Must interact with Patient Billing and Finance to assure the accuracy of charges.
  • Oversee and collaborate with Facilities Department on construction and facility projects.
  • Oversee the daily operation of the Department of Cardiology.
  • Understands the budget process and researches and comprehends budget variances.
  • Maintains knowledge of JCAHO and DOH standards and implements policy and practice to maintain those standards.
  • Manages the operation of the team to meet commitments to Senior Administration and Finance related to cardiology-based performance. (volume, costs, trends and budget analysis
  • Performs quality analysis of information through application testing and validation testing to ensure appropriate, accurate results.
  • Accepts direct responsibility for the analysis, audit and delivery of all requests made to self and direct reports.
  • Develops and oversees quality and performance improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Nursing or related health care field required, either at time of hire/transfer.
  • 8 years critical care or cardiology experience and 4 years supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge of clinical practice human resource management normally gained through progressively responsible experience in health care including supervision and leadership. 
  • Analytical ability necessary to evaluate staff, address and improve clinical and programmatic issues and devise solutions to complex problems. 
  • Leadership ability to develop staff, establish and maintain standards of performance within a national context for professional nursing practice and comply with administrative requirements. 
  • Superior interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to effectively create relationships to support a healing environment with patients, families, staff, physicians and hospital personnel including senior management in both written and verbal communication.
  • Certification in Critical Care preferred


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

 

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Act 34
