The Hillman Center for Pediatric Transplantation at UPMC Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh is seeking an experienced pediatric transplant psychologist with 10+ years of clinical experience to support a large, multi-organ academic medical center.

About the Position:

  • Provides pre-surgical evaluation and assessment for candidacy on UNOS transplant waiting list as well as behavioral health assessment of readiness for transplant surgery
  • Provides psychological follow-up care for patients and families as needed and during annual post transplant care
  • Works with the respective transplant teams to provide excellent care and improve the quality of life of patients and families
  • Screening for psychiatric issues and facilitate treatment
  • Screening for health literacy and cognitive impairments
  • Reviewing and mobilizing family support and other resources
  • Evaluating candidate/family support for surgical procedures to optimize compliance and effectiveness
  • Managing psychopathology and substance abuse risk for both patient and refer any identified concerns related to family or support caregiver
  • Assessing motivation to improve, barriers to optimal compliance, and stage of change


  • Applicants must hold a doctoral degree in clinical psychology (PhD or PsyD), with significant experience in pediatric transplant psychology
  • Licensed to practice psychology independently in Pennsylvania, or be able to apply for license
  • Required completion of a post-doctoral fellowship
