Supervisor, Pharmacy Operations

Description

UPMC Presbyterian is looking for a highly motivated full-time Supervisor, Pharmacy Operations to oversee UPMC Presbyterian Central Inpatient Pharmacy. The individual in this position will oversee overnight central pharmacy operations and will serve as the Pharmacy Administrator on Duty as part of our management escalation chain. The individual in this position will also be responsible for ensuring that medications are dispensed and delivered in a timely fashion and will be expected to jump into the workflow to aid frontline staff when necessary. This position will be scheduled to work overnight shifts and offers a schedule of 7 nights on and 7 nights off. Each shift will be from 8:00 PM – 7:00 AM. Having prior hospital leadership/management experience is preferred.

Purpose:
Supervise the daily activities of staff pharmacists and pharmacy assistants in a variety of areas including order entry, IV admixture preparation, purchasing and inventory control, and automated drug dispensing and storage systems. Assist the Manager/Assistant Director to ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations and JCAHO accreditation standards.

Responsibilities:

 

  • Participate in the annual review and revision of the Policy and Procedures manual.
  • Complete performance evaluations of appropriate staff members. Initiates disciplinary action and makes recommendations for corrective action and improvement of performance.
  • Implement projects as assigned by the Manager/Assistant Director.
  • Oversee and maintain expertise in assigned areas of specific responsibility such as human resource policies and procedures, drug procurement, IV admixture preparation, and drug dispensing systems.
  • Ensure achievement of productivity standards, and adherence to regulations and standards of performance and accreditation.

Qualifications

 

  • B.S./PharmD degree from an accredited School of Pharmacy is required.
  • 3 years of operational experience in a pharmacy is required.
  • Ability to obtain and interpret information in terms of the specific areas of responsibility.
  • Understands departmental and hospital policies and procedures.
