Description

Purpose:
Plans, organize, develops, directs, and coordinates all aspects of business informatics. Works collaboratively with leadership in Information Systems, Finance, Physician and Professional Services, Human Resources, Health Information Management, and other departments throughout the organization as appropriate to integrate and evaluate business processes and systems that support business operations and management. Provides support, counsel, and direction to Informatics Analysts enabling them to meet departmental and organizational objectives. Accountable for establishing strong professional relationships with clinical staff and the management team. Supports the philosophy of the Pinnacle Health System in daily operations.

COMMUNICATION:
  • Maintains open, productive communication with the Chief Information Officer and representatives throughout the organization and in the community. 
  • Conducts regular meetings with staff to ensure timely, relevant dissemination of information, identification of concerns, and active problem solving of pertinent issues. 
  • Promotes and maintains positive, productive partnerships inter-and intradepartmental to encourage effective collaboration. 
  • Provides consultation related to processes and clinical information systems.

CONTROLLING:
  • Utilizing the principles of Six Sigma, monitors systems, analyzes processes, evaluates outcomes, and recommends revisions. 
  • Ensures that appropriate systems are in place to support the clinical staff. 
  • Reports regularly to the Chief Information Officer accomplishment of goals and objectives. 
  • Reports regularly to the Chief Information Officer variances in the budget.
COACHING AND DEVELOPMENT: 
  • Develops the capabilities of others and provides mentorship to improve job performance and assist with upward and lateral mobility. 
  • On a regular basis, review the functions, responsibilities, and authority of personnel to keep current with organizational goals and the healthcare environment. 
  • Performs annual evaluation of personnel recognizing accomplishments and identifying areas for improvement. 
  • Ensures attendance and participation at required organization workshops, in-services, and task forces.
  • Promotes and maintains positive working relationships within the department, with other areas throughout UPMC Pinnacle Health and in the community. 
  • Encourages creativity and innovation in personnel in the performance of roles. Promotes professionalism and a positive work ethic.
ORGANIZATION: 
  • Organizes, prioritizes, and modifies activities of Business Informatics to achieve identified goals and objectives. 
  • Determines the level of personnel necessary for efficient, effective implementation of business and financial information systems. 
  • Assigns defines and delegates responsibilities and authority to personnel consistent with their capabilities and potential.
  • Interviews, selects, counsels, and evaluates the performance of direct reports and related resources supplied through Managed Services agreement(s). 
  • Analyzes and alters staffing patterns to meet the changing needs of business informatics and organization overall.
PLANNING AND DEVELOPMENT: 
  • Understands technology trends and government initiatives related to healthcare and business operations.  
  • Works closely with the Chief Information Officer and representative (Senior) Vice President, Director, and Manager level customers to develop the information strategic plan. 
  • Responsible for the development of short and long-range goals for Business Informatics consistent with the mission, vision, and values. 
  • Plans/revises develops and implements objectives in response to identified needs. 
  • Interfaces with leadership to identify business and financial information need to support overall operations of the lines of services supported.
  • Coordinates appropriate team to plan for and implement business and financial information systems.
  • Prepares Business Informatics budget. 
  • Reviews resource utilization and budget activities to ensure compliance with budget parameters including oversight of related expenses resident in the general Information Services budget. 
  • Integrates appropriate business and financial practice standards when planning and implementing systems. 
  • Understands the business fundamentals and drivers of the financial and operational success of PinnacleHealth. 
  • Effectively leads to high-performance teams and drives results through motivation and communication. 
  • Develops and revises administrative policies and procedures related to the business and financial information systems. 
  • Assists business informatics staff in developing goals and objectives.
  • Assists business informatics staff in developing realistic project plans and reviews the progress of these plans.

Qualifications

Masters degree in Business Administration, Finance, Accounting or related Health Care field with ten (10) years progressive experience in health care finance or operations OR Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration with fifteen (15) years progressive experience in health care finance or operations.  

Must demonstrate strong interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills. 
Must have experience with process improvement and project management.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
Clearances must be dated within 90 days

  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal
