The Human Resources Retention Specialist facilitates the new hire/transfer on-boarding process including new hire follow up and overall retention initiatives.   • Furthers a culture of recognition by use of employee recognition strategies facilitated by executive leadership, leadership and human resources.
  • Assists with turnover analysis (new hire, annual and job specific) to assist with development of strategies to improve retention.
  • Assists with learning and development strategies between UPMC learning and develop and Business Unit. Assists with implementation of UPMC Learning and Development programming at the Business Unit level.
  • Develops, facilitates and ensures completion of all UPMC and business unit new leader on-boarding and orientation requirements.
  • Coordinates Lend a Hand participation at Business Unit.
  • Assists business unit human resources leadership with business unit workforce retention initiatives by use of human resources metrics and strategies such as exit interview data, turnover analysis, absence management statistics or focused interviews.
  • Actively participates in business unit or system-wide human resources committees.
  • Provides primary human resources consulting services for the Business Unit by providing expert recommendations on workplace retention and engagement and cultural improvements. Engages leaders and staff on a culture of inclusion.
  • Acts as a UPMC and business unit culture champion.
  • Facilitates Beginnings @ BU orientation and ensures UPMC and business unit culture is incorporated into the on-boarding and first year employment experience.
  • Coordinates efforts related to business unit new hire experience, including but not limited to surveys, follow up calls/discussions, and analyzes and reports on outcomes.



  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business or related field required.
  • PHR certification/SHRM-CP/UPMC Strategic HR Business Partner certification preferred.
  • One year of employee relations experience or HR project related experience required.
  • Understanding of federal, state and local legislation as it applies to human resources and the employment process required.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office products required.
  • Strong understanding of Excel is preferred.
