UPMC Presbyterian is hiring a full-time Echocardiography Supervisor! This role is going to be scheduled daylight shift, Monday-Friday, with occasional weekend, holiday, and on-call responsibilities. 
We are seeking a highly motivated individual with a passion for echocardiography and a desire to lead and work with an energetic group of individuals to provide excellent clinical care and solve challenges in a dynamic health care environment. The Supervisor role will coordinate efficient team-oriented operations performed by the staff, which includes RDCS sonographers, nurses, and secretaries, to provide transthoracic echocardiography, including 3D and strain imaging, all modalities of stress echo, and TEE services and research echoes, in conjunction with an administrator and a medical director. This role will also continue to be a practicing RDCS sonographer, serving as a role model and mentor for the sonographer staff, while cultivating a culture of excellence. Additionally, the Supervisor role will ensure the QA of the laboratory to maintain IAC accreditation, assist in training Cardiology Fellows, and have the opportunity to work with dedicated Echocardiography Faculty who solely staff the laboratory. 
The Echocardiography Laboratory is an IAC-accredited, state-of-the-art facility housed within a newly constructed imaging center at the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital. This lab supports an academic tertiary care hospital that delivers advanced cardiac care and functions as the major hub of the UPMC system for patient care, teaching, and research. Ensures the efficient operations of the imaging department. Supervises staff and operations, ensures efficient workflow, delegates responsibilities, ensures efficient staffing levels, and timely communication to both staff and other members of management.

  • Responsible for interviewing and hiring decisions to maintain adequate staffing levels.
  • Responsible for holding staff accountable to system values and behaviors.
  • Monitors employee compliance with safety standards and ensure standards are enforced.
  • Participates in the budgeting process.
  • Maintain costs and meets budget for supplies and clinical staffing.
  • Assists in the development, revision, and implementation of department policies, procedures, and QA initiatives.
  • Communicates and enforces policies and procedures to staff.
  • Ensures that all quality-control tests and procedures are conducted and documented and that performance of all equipment is accurate within established parameters to meet regulatory requirements.
  • Ensures repairs are addressed in a timely manner.
  • Ensures staff are properly oriented and performs annual performance evaluations of staff.
  • Ensures efficient workflow, delegation of responsibilities, efficient staffing levels, and timely communication to both staff and other members of management are maintained throughout the department.
  • Maintains records and reports for each staff member to ensure performance is met and has crucial conversations with staff when needed.
  • Engages in staff recognition and staff empowerment while maintaining a focus on the patient experience.
  • Remains current regarding industry changes and attends training sessions to maintain knowledge as necessary.


  • Associate's degree or higher in medical imaging technology preferred.
  • 4 years of imaging experience required.
  • Previous supervisory experience is preferred.
  • Effective analytical ability and interpersonal skills
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
  • Registry Required in area of specialty.
  • CPR/BLS required.
  • Act 33, 34, 73 as required by business unit.
