UPMC Somerset is hiring a Full Time Lab Assistant to support the Laboratory department in Somerset, PA!
The shift of this position is 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and will be rotating approximately every other weekend.
Purpose:
Plant/process microbiology specimens and perform routine clerical functions in the microbiology laboratory.
Responsibilities:
- Perform all aspects of specimen processing
- Perform routine clerical functions by maintaining accurate and complete cytology records of test results.
- Orders and maintains adequate general supplies for the lab.
- Coordinates filing and retrieval of cytology slides.
- Assist in the processing of cytology specimens, when assigned.
- Accessions Histology Specimens and carries out other duties as assigned
- Completely procures venipuncture specimens on outpatients and/or inpatients.
- Prepare specimens at work stations for testing, including labeling, accessioning, and aliquotting.
- As required, performs related clerical duties, and utilizes various computer functions to accurately enter demographic information into the information system(s), enters test orders, receives, cancels, charges, and credit tests, while ascertaining adequacy of patient information as well as sample identity.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED.
- Knowledge of biology/chemistry gained through high school science courses.
- Certification from an accredited Phlebotomy or Medical Assistant program preferred.
- Minimum 6 months experience performing phlebotomy preferred.
- Medical terminology knowledge and laboratory information system experience preferred.
