Onsite Health Educator- Temporary


UPMC Health Plan is hiring a temporary Onsite Health Educator to help support the Health Promotion Department for its downtown Pittsburgh location at the US Steel Tower. This is a Monday through Friday daylight position.

The Onsite Health Educator serves within the Health Plan's health promotion department. The Onsite Health Educator I functions mainly to provide support for health and benefit fairs and health screenings for members of the Health Plan. Works with others in the Health Promotion department to plan and coordinate events for employers and community groups. Staffs events for employers and community groups, including weekends and evenings as needed. Performs health screening measures (such as body mass index) and reviews health screening results with participants. Provides member education related to health promotion and healthy lifestyle. Training provided.


  • Accurately documents member or account contacts in a timely fashion.
  • Assess members' readiness to change when providing biometric results specifically as teachable moments.
  • Assist in research, review and interpretation of published literature on fitness, nutrition, smoking cessation, health promotion and weight management.
  • Assist in writing and editing health promotion media and articles for in-house and external publications.
  • Assist with: planning, coordinate, implement, facilitate and evaluate employer health promotion programs.
  • Defines health behaviors or concerns that would potentially improve health if targeted for change
  • Develops and maintain awareness of and competence in the use of behavior modification skills.
  • Engages members who have specified risk factors in the collaborative development of a personalized behavior change plan to address the risk factor(s) in conjunction with their primary care physicians, if appropriate.
  • Facilitate collaboration between external health resources and UPMC Health Plan.
  • Facilitate member education sessions related to health and wellness
  • Maintain knowledge of UPMC, UPMC Health Plan and community health resources.
  • Perform educational evaluations on biometric screening results, including blood pressure, cholesterol, glucose, body mass index and other clinical measures.
  • Performs all duties within the policies and procedures of the UPMC Health System.
  • Proven administrative abilities, excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment with a minimum of supervision required.
  • Review employer group/individual member health information including but not limited to Health Risk Appraisals data and Biometric Screening results and triage to appropriate health promotion programs.
  • Work with staff in Health Management, Health Promotion, and Account Management as necessary as a health promotion consultant.




  • Bachelors degree in a health-related field preferred
  • Previous experience with Health and Wellness within a Health Insurance environment is preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • A high energy level and excellent oral communication skills.
  • Nonsmoker.
  • Intermediate-level proficiency with Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint as well as motivation to learn operations of new software to support program documentation and data collection.
  • Valid PA drivers license.
  • Access to reliable transportation for required travel.
  • Ability to lift 30 lbs. 
  • National certification in health education or related discipline preferred
