Description

University of Pittsburgh Physicians is seeking a full-time Project Manager to support the Department of Critical Care Medicine at Scaife Hall on UPMC Presbyterian's campus!

The Project Manager defines and develops overall project objectives, scopes, and work plans, reviewing and confirming with internal clients to facilitate business process enhancements. This role dynamically leads presentations and work sessions to positively influence decisions and perceptions, managing in ambiguous situations with minimal direction. The Project Manager will build, direct, and maintain motivated and diverse teams, focused on enhancing and supporting Clinical, Academic, and Service Center operations for Critical Care Medicine.

The ideal candidate for this position will have previous healthcare industry work experience, with any previous experience in a clinical/medical academic setting being a plus. Proficient Excel skills are strongly preferred, as is previous experience with Visio, Power BI, and/or Microsoft Project. A background in data analytics with project workflow is highly preferred, as well.



Responsibilities:

 

  • Cooperate closely with business leaders and/or relevant experts in resolving issues.
  • Identify and mitigate business risks associated with projects.
  • Define alternative/compromise solutions that address others' fundamental concerns and impacts on long-term relationships.
  • Systematically convey pros and cons of alternative solutions to complex, sophisticated, and sensitive issues and achieve consensus on direction/ approach.
  • Analyze the training needs of project teams and identify relevant training material/courses to address these needs.
  • Recognize and anticipate scope issues and communicate changes to the work plan to internal client and team.
  • Generate new perspectives, frameworks, or innovations that enable problem resolution.
  • Generate innovative ideas that are strategically sound and challenge the status quo.
  • Demonstrate ability to prepare sensitive information and communicate it directly to senior management.
  • Prioritize tasks based on relative importance and urgency, and identify dependencies across projects.
  • Recognize and act decisively in urgent matters; make tough decisions that may influence the direction of the project.
  • Direct and execute creative analytic approaches/create new or adapt existing analytical methods and tools to solve problems.
  • Anticipate and define barriers to change with internal client; devise plans to address change barriers and ensure acceptance of the change process.
  • Establish a mentoring environment.
  • Participate in and/or lead the comprehensive review of the projects being managed by other project managers; accurately assess project status and develop appropriate recommendations and assessment documents.
  • Plan, organize, and control multiple responsibilities and solicit participation from cross-functional resources not under personal control, and ensure that the most appropriate resources are assigned to specific project roles.
  • Plan and execute communication of complex information to team members and stakeholder groups.
  • Build follow-up mechanism/maintenance plan into project deliverables to ensure that changes to be implemented will be sustainable.
  • Ensure business value has been delivered.
  • Dynamically lead presentations/work sessions to positively influence decisions and perceptions.
  • Define and develop overall project objectives, scope, and work plan, and review and confirm with internal client.
    • Many of these projects will initially lack concrete definition, and will involve complex and politically sensitive matters.
  • Anticipate key business and project issues, assess alternatives, and take appropriate measures to resolve in a professional, tactful manner, implementing comprehensive recommendations to achieve desired outcome.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Mathematics, Statistics, Health Care, Management, or related field.
    • Master's Degree preferred.
    • Extensive related experience will be considered.
  • Five years of project management experience.
  • Project Management Professional certification preferred.
  • Experience in healthcare insurance or healthcare industry preferred.
  • Excellent computer skills required, including Access, Excel, Microsoft Project, and other pertinent computer software packages.
  • Strong management, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills (oral and written) are required.
  • Excellent Project Management skills, along with effective planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to perform planning for large initiatives/projects, managing all tasks required to provide services to meet client and business needs within budget and targeted deadlines.
  • Background in data and/or financial analytics preferred.
  • Experience with Visio and/or Power BI preferred.
