UPMC Western Maryland is searching for a CNA to support our Labor & Delivery unit as an OB Tech. This position is primarily day/evening, 12 hour shifts. Every other weekend and rotating holidays.

Purpose:
Must be service oriented; possess high level of commitment to customer service and patient centered approach to care.
Responsibilities:
- Maintain a safe environment by working with the registered nurse to count sponges, instruments and needles.
- Maintains accurate communication with staff, physicians, patients and visitors.
- Update knowledge of surgical procedures and sterilization processes by continually seeking staff assistance and instruction with unfamiliar equipment and instrumentation.
- Assist with deliveries: delivery table set up and break down and removal (once count is complete).
- Escort/transfer patients to and from testing, unit to unit and discharge.
- Assuring adequate supplies are ordered, stacked and sorted appropriately.
- Immediate assistance to patient with delivery: pericare, ice pack, clean gown, general area cleanup.
- Assist with patient care: i.e., toileting, pericare, linen changes and oral care.
- Perform the technical aspect in the care of a patient to maintain surgical asepsis.
- Assist with maintaining environment, emptying trash in patient rooms and nurse's station, emptying linen in patient rooms/nursery once 1/2 full.
- Participate in regular department and hospital in-service education programs.
- Assisting provider with instrumentation, retracting, etc.
- Follow mandatory reporting procedures for any incident or serious even that did affect or potentially could have affected the clinical care of any patient.
- Once competence obtained in adult & neonatal Phlebotomy, ability to obtain specimens and label at bedside.
- Once competence obtained may assist with bathing and feed of newborns.
Qualifications
- 1 year of recent experience in direct patient care.
- Successful completion of an in-house Surgical Scrub Assistant Program.
- Analytical ability necessary to recognize irregular occurrences, discern emergency situations and respond accordingly.
- Interpersonal skill necessary to effectively interact with hospital staff and work cooperatively within the framework of the surgical team.
- Psychomotor skills necessary to assist with surgical procedures.
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA)
