UPMC Altoona is seeking a healthcare professional to support our Patient Experience department as a Patient & Employee Engagement Strategist! This is an exciting new opportunity for someone who is caring, compassionate and wants to make a difference!
As a P/E Engagement Strategist, you would formulate, implement and communicate the employee and patient experience strategies and design, often serving as the team advisor! You would recognize strengths; build and maintain self-confidence and self-esteem and challenge the coachee (leader or front-line staff) to move beyond the comfort zone! Other responsibilities with this role entail: breaking down big challenges into manageable steps, working collaboratively with various leaders to establish accountability, and measuring success in behavioral changes of leaders and front-line staff.
Reporting structure: Solid-line to CNO with dotted-line to VP Operations and Regional Quality Director.
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate ownership of employee/patient experience initiatives (i.e., bedside shift report, patient rounding) and clinical outcome initiatives (i.e., HACs, PSIs, Readmissions)
- Develop a successful onboarding program for new hires
- Ensure team members have a clear definition and understanding of their roles/ responsibilities and hold staff accountable for their actions
- Identifies and communicates opportunity for quality improvement.
- Achieve effective performance management by providing specific, balanced, and timely observations of performance and effectiveness
- Provides leadership, education, and guidance to leaders and front-line staff in order to facilitate implementation and/or completion of required job components.
- Actively participates representing hospital on the system patient experience committee
- Assists Nursing Education, Professional Practice and Quality to hard wire into practice evidence based strategies to improve the employee and patient experience (i.e., special education for plans of correction, urgent organization priorities).
- Leads hospital patient experience and patient advisory committees.
- Practices solid communication skills and demonstrates knowledge of adult learning principles.
- Engage their team and multidisciplinary team members through effective conversations
- Deliver verbiage for crucial conversations and conflict resolution
- Adapts to change and demonstrates flexibility with the change process.
- Demonstrates critical thinking by identifying potential challenges, pitfalls, and unforeseen consequences that individuals may encounter and develops a course of action.
- Demonstrate an understanding of cultural differences and hold staff accountable to develop healthy relationships with ever member of the team
- Exemplifies the organizational values in interactions with Leaders and UPMC customers whether internal or external.
- Identify that they have the responsibility, authority, and accountability to set standards for the provision of nursing care
- Run effective unit level meetings
- Develops and maintains productive working relationships by demonstrating accountability for actions, enthusiasm, motivation and commitment to colleagues and customers.
- Coaches through competent decision making to productively and effectively manage a complex environment with multiple/changing priorities.
- In collaboration with executive team, engage leaders to: Embody the role of the Leader which encompasses leadership, partnership, collaboration, and supervision
- Provide follow-up to training modules and programs provided by UPMC Training and Development
- Manage daily and weekly workload including, but not limited to email, meetings, unit needs, hospital needs and patient/staff needs and rounding
- Measures success in behavioral changes through observation and use of informal tools.
Qualifications
Minimum Required:
- Bachelors of Science Degree in Nursing or health care related field
- Five (5) years of progressive relevant clinical, educational, and leadership experience
- Knowledge and experience within hospital operations
- Experience with hospital systems, leadership, group process, motivational, and adult learning theories
Preferred:
- Master's degree in Nursing or a related field
- Experience with interdisciplinary collaboration
- Member of a professional organization
Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
- Act 34
