UPMC Cole is hiring a Temporary Office Assistant II to support our Cancer Center. This position is a full-time temporary six-month assignment and will work Monday through Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The ideal candidate will be able to manage competing priorities in a busy office setting. Excellent customer service skills a must!
Responsibilities:
1 - Utilize appropriate modules of the automated financial management system for scheduling, information verification, entering charges, co-payment collection/ reconciliation and other tasks. Schedule, coordinate and reschedule patient appointments. Relay necessary messages to staff and providers.
10 - Identify stock levels of office supplies and assist with ordering/inventory management.
2 - Verify necessary information and records in the medical record and computerized scheduling system. Prepare patient charts for upcoming appointments.
3 - Maintain and update current information on physician's schedules ensuring that patients are scheduled properly and appointments are confirmed. Answer telephone, screen calls, takes messages and provides information in a courteous manner.
4 - Answer questions regarding patient appointments and testing. Greet and register patients in a polite, prompt, helpful manner. Provide any necessary instructions/directions. Inform appropriate department/person of person's arrival performing appropriate check-in and check-out functions.
5 - Completes necessary paperwork such as encounter forms and referrals. Use computer system to generate information necessary for billing. Maintain a clean, orderly waiting area including beverage area and reading materials.
6 - Schedule diagnostic testing and obtain insurance authorizations, verifications, and referrals in a timely fashion
7 - Assist physicians with transcription and dictation issues/concerns, and review process for accuracy
8 - Process medical records release requests.
9 - Assist with inpatient billing process.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED Three years of work experience, preferably in a medical office setting. Knowledge of medical terminology preferred. Word processing and computer experience required. Must have proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite: Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerpointMust possess typing skills and working knowledge of word processing, electronic mail/calendar and spreadsheets. Must possess the ability to learn and effectively use various software programs. General knowledge and experience with office equipment such as copiers, multi-line phone systems, fax machines and paging systems
