Floor & Project Technician-UPMC Magee Women's Hospital


UPMC Magee-Womens Hospital is seeking a Full-time Floor and Project Technician to support the Environmental Services department!

This position will work SHIFTS. Hours are subject to change based on business needs.

The Floor and Project Technician maintains all types of floor areas through the process of stripping/refinishing hard surface floors and shampooing carpeted areas.


  • Cleans and sanitizes after emergency spill clean-up requests.
  • Change Shampoo to Extracts.
  • Inspect and ensure that all assigned areas are properly cleaned and in good repair, reporting all problems to the supervisor.
  • Shampoo assigned carpeted areas.
  • Maintain all assigned equipment; keep equipment clean and in good repair, report all problems and suggestions to the supervisor.
  • Comply with all Hospital/Department policies and procedures.
  • Follow all safety and sanitation regulations, reporting problems to the shift supervisor.
  • Remove all soil, wax, and sealer from assigned hard-surface floors.
  • Uses chemicals and solutions per department Tech Manual.
  • MWH Specific Responsibilities: Waste Removal: Transports biohazardous and chemo therapeutic waste in a safe manner from designated areas to the incinerator; Transports municipal waste in a safe manner from designated areas to the compactor and Transport
  • MWH Specific Responsibilities:
    • Corrective Cleaning: Strips or scrubs, seals and recoats all the floors; Burnish all the floors; Shampoo, spin bonnets and extracts carpeted surfaces; Washes walls and windows and Removing and remounting of draperies and curtains
    • Other Duties: Removes trash and linen to proper collection areas; Transports furniture, beds, boxes, and other equipment and supplies; Cleans refrigerators and other general equipment and Maintains equipment and work areas.
    • Preventive Cleaning: Vacuum and spot cleans carpets; Clean exam rooms, public rest rooms and waiting areas, offices, corridors, and all non-patient care areas and Remove debris from entrances, sidewalks, parking lots, and garage



  • HS Diploma/GED or 1 year of previous job experience required in lieu of HS Diploma/GED or successful completion of the 5-week EVS training program
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions to successfully complete housekeeping duties.
  • Ability to use all housekeeping equipment.
  • May in the course of duties be in rooms where medications are stored. No contact with medications is allowed.

Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • Act 34 with renewal
