The Content Manager leads a team of internal and external writers, designers, and works with a variety of internal production team members to create channel-optimized, high traffic blog content, lead-converting resources, and shareable creative assets and videos. This manager reports to the Director, Digital Content and Production, and supports marketing stakeholders' campaigns, including brand awareness, conversion optimization, community management, and channels/verticals.

  • Act as an evangelist for our message, brand, and content through thought leadership and blogging, crafting email newsletters, and speaking. Keep the team up-to-date with the latest trends in content marketing. Convince others that your creative ideas are worth investing time and effort in. This role is at the core of the marketing team, and others will rely on your work every single day.
  • Make data-driven decisions to move the team and our content forward, encouraging users to travel down the journey. Drive user research and concept development, including persona and scenario development. Conduct analytical projects to improve blog strategies/tactics
  • Develop and execute strategies and processes to scale output content. Build and manage a rich content/editorial calendar that meets the needs of our campaigns and attracts a qualified audience to our owned properties (including blog posts, whitepapers, ebooks, reports, webinars, infographics, etc.). Work closely with clinical and digital marketing teammates to identify research topics. Manage content creation (copy, design, video) in-house contributors, agencies, and freelancers. Administratively manage overall relationships with major content production shops/agencies, including budget monitoring, quality assurance, RFPs, relationship management and process development.
  • Lead a content team to create regular content to be marketed via all inbound channels (social, email, blog, landing pages, etc.). Serve as an exemplary writer, consistent with our company?s tone and mission. Write clean, concise, well-polished copy. Edit all content including conceptualizing the projects upfront and copy-editing prior to publishing to meet generally accepted grammar and style requirements as well as UPMC style requirements. . Collaborate with clinical marketing and blog contributors to create high-quality content around important, relevant terms.
  • Partner with SEO team to create processes to optimize content for search engines, social media, email, and lead generation Conduct keyword research and track ranking success. Grow the HealthBeat blog subscriber base by providing regular, helpful content that?s in-tune with health consumer needs to expand the blog?s overall reach. Stay up-to-date with the latest industry trends and customer challenges to build a more effective editorial calendar.



  • BA/BS in Journalism or Marketing/Communications.
  • Proven and visible marketing veteran, with a minimum of five years of digital marketing experience preferably in creating content for the web across several disciplines (text, design, video, etc.) and media (blogging, guides, whitepapers, research, infographics, podcasts, etc.).
  • A dual-minded approach: Highly creative and an excellent writer but also process-drive, and relies on data to make decisions.Knowledge and experience in using external content service vendors and in general production capabilities such as video, animations, 2D/3D graphics, infographics, digital design elements and audio techniques.
  • Thorough knowledge of search ranking and optimization factors and key algorithm updates.
  • Driven by creative intuition but able to gut check and course-correct with data, as well as report results and optimize using data.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, as well as the ability to adopt the style, tone, and voice of our business' various types of content
  • Knowledge of Experience in working with MS Office, including Word, PowerPoint and Excel as well as WordPress, SiteCore and other CMS platforms.
  • Excellent organizational skills to work independently and manage projects with many moving parts
  • Build and maintain our editorial calendar and written guidelines.
  • Experience with data-driven SEO analysis and optimization.Experience in managing staff preferred.
  • Health Care experience preferred.
