Serve as chief technologist under the direction of the EMU/EEG/EMG directors and the Clinical Director for those areas. Supervise all technical operations including personnel in EEG, EMU and EMG. Assume 24 hour responsibility for achieving quality patient care services through leadership and utilization of resources.

Responsibilities:

  • Communicate the mission, vision, and philosophy of Clinical Administration and the UPMCS Effectively. Control the financial performance and productivity of department within defined fiscal parameters. Prepare annual man-hours, operating, and capital budgets based upon analysis of clinical goals, established standards. Prepare a deliverable personnel schedule that demonstrates ability to manage resources to meet volume. Demonstrate the ability to apply a varied leadership style based upon situation and developmental stage of individual or group. Demonstrate and role model risk taking and hardy behaviors. Demonstrate consistent adherence to established guidelines for progressive discipline of employees related to time/attendance, service standards, and other aspects of performance. Develop Standards & Practices in accordance with regulatory requirements. Supervise EMG, EMU and EEG staff. Interview and select new employees.Complete performance appraisal process including merit raises.
  • Supervise all archiving of data. Maintain data and patient contact for research protocols. Assist when needed in the clinical EEG laboratory. Prepare monthly statistics. Complete Quality Assurance protocols as directed by the clinical director. Ensure that all billing is completed accurately and in a timely fashion. Monitor outpatient scheduling and make adjustments when appropriate. Prepare capital equipment requests. Know proficiently policies and procedures, and displays knowledge of infection control and universal precautions. Review and approve supply orders for EMG, EMU and EEG. Maintain standards of patient care. Collaborate with physician to ensure quality patient care. Respond to emergent situations and indicates appropriate actions. Adhere strictly to all policies and practices relative to patient care and hospital related information. Comply with safety policies and practices including standard precautions. Ensure equipment malfunctions are reported to the appropriate department, i.e., Maintenance or Biomedical Engineering.
  • Receive feedback and direction constructively. Identify and communicate learning needs to appropriate clinical director. Take action to improve knowledge, skills and performance based on feedback or on self-identified developmental needs. Request assistance and review relevant policies and procedures prior to performing new or challenging skills. Participate in self-review as requested by administrator. Foster the creation of an environment conducive to professional growth and development.
  • Able to perform all aspects of monitoring in the EMU as well as clinical EEG. Contact patients and coordinates admissions to the EMU. Obtain prior authorization from insurance carriers for all patients admitted to the EMU. Trouble shoot all equipment failures and works with the vendor to correct problems. Perform preliminary review of all digital EEG data recorded in the EMU. Develop orientation plans for EMG, EEG and EMU staff. Coordinate appointments for patients upon discharge from the hospital. Recognize ictal pattern on the EEG and prepares patients for ictal SPECT scans by injecting radioactive isotope during seizure at bedside.
  • Establish appropriate and effective communication strategies with other disciplines, physicians and peers. Ensure to establish professional and respectful interpersonal relationships. Develop collegial relationships with staff on 8G and functions as a resource for clinical nursing related to EEG, EMG and EMU. Direct clinical practice activities that produce/result in measurable outcomes. Recommend changes in clinical practice or process improvement based upon clinical findings, multidisciplinary team recommendations, and research to promote cost/quality outcomes. Ensure that department meets and complies with JCAHO standards and regulations, as well as the standards and regulations for all regulatory agencies.

 

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent with 6 years of EEG experience, OR
  • Associate's Degree and 5 years of experience as a senior technologist performing all aspects of clinical neurodiagnostics, OR
  • Enrolled in or graduate or a CAAHEP accredited END Program and 5 years of experience as a senior technologist performing all aspects of clinical neurodiagnostics.
  • Bachelor's degree is preferred.


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:
CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
 

  • American Board of Registered Electroneurodiagnostic Technologists OR American Association of Electrodiagnostic Technologists OR American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
