University of Pittsburgh Physicians is seeking a full-time Biomedical Engineer - Associate to support the 3D Printing Program at UPMC Presbyterian!
Under the direction of the Physician Medical Director, the Biomedical Engineer - Associate will serve as support staff for the 3D Printing Program within UPMC. This role will be responsible for the care of 3D printing and related equipment within UPMC.
Responsibilities:
- Under the direction of the Physician Medical Director, the incumbent will serve as support staff for the 3D Printing Program within UPMC.
- Incumbent will be responsible for care of 3D printing and related equipment within UPMC.
- 3D Printing: Incumbent is expected to segment relevant anatomy from clinical imaging data (e.g. CT and MRI) and generate and manufacture patient-specific 3D printed anatomic models and surgical guides.
- Device Development: Incumbent is expected to aid the development, testing, and manufacture of medical devices along with the development and application of associated Quality Management Systems.
- Research: Incumbent will also be expected to participate in ongoing departmental research projects towards the innovation of novel applications and devices utilizing 3D printing technology.
- The research will be under the mentorship of the Medical Director.
- Communication: Incumbent will be expected to communicate with physicians and staff requesting 3D printed models to facilitate the design, manufacture, and delivery of the models.
Qualifications
- Must have a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Biomedical, or other related Engineering field.
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate well, both orally and in written form.
- Preferred:
- Prior experience with medical 3D printing, including anatomic models and surgical guides.
- Ability to work independently in a variety of software platforms used for post-processing of medical imaging data, including Materialise Mimics, Materialise 3-Matic, Formlabs Pre-Form, Materialise Pro-plan, etc.
- In-depth knowledge and experience with various additive manufacturing processes.
- An in-depth understanding of the human anatomy.
- Prior experience with medical device design and computer-aided design software packages, such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD.
- Previous experience with Quality Management Systems in medical device development, including 21 CFR Part 820 and ISO 13485.
