The SWAT Recruiter is a regular, full-time position that primarily works daylight hours, Monday through Friday.  This position is based out of the US Steel Tower in downtown Pittsburgh and offers remote work flexibility.

The SWAT Recruiter acts as a strategic resource to our Health Services Division recruitment team.  They assist and lead the development, implementation and management of recruiting strategies, including recruitment areas of high need and hard to fill positions.  They create, develop and manage diverse proactive pipelines of recruitment talent through strategic sourcing and networking.  The SWAT Recruiter works with operational, clinical and business unit HR staff to understand their needs and to assist them in interviewing and hiring of qualified candidates.  They are an internal recruitment solution for the organization, for hard to fill positions.

  • Develop and initiate the most effective and innovative recruitment sources and initiatives for attracting and retaining the best-qualified candidates.
  • Review and evaluate candidate applications and/or resume in terms of related experience, education and skill rejecting those not meeting the minimum qualifications on the approved job description.
  • Identify high need and difficult to fill positions.
  • Ensure diversity in all candidate pools and using effective souring techniques to find those candidates.
  • Administer Recruitment contingent and retained vendor process. Meet with and assess the needs for these areas on a consistent basis.
  • Strategize with operational, clinical and HR about sources and strategies to attract applicants for high need areas.
  • Identify and analyze turnover trends.
  • Working effectively as part of the recruitment team you are assisting to meet team goals and deadlines.
  • Will partner with hiring managers and on-site Recruiters to build relationships and an understanding of staffing needs specific to the location(s) they support. Actively participates and partners with assigned leadership to develop and execute strategic workforce planning and strategic recruitment plans. Actively participates and partners with assigned leadership to develop and execute strategic workforce planning tactical and strategic plans.
  • Develop the appropriate relationships with schools, members of professional organizations and community members that could be referral sources. Network with the existing professionals in these areas to find additional applicants.
  • Proactively build and create candidate pipelines; track individuals with these skill sets to network for future opportunities.
  • Recommend new recruitment sources, build talent networks, and source passive candidates to build a robust candidate pipeline.
  • Assist with training for interview skills, sourcing and tracking candidates when needed.
  • Research new and creative cost-effective candidate sources for niche areas.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all information received within the guidelines of professional recruitment in compliance with federal, state, and local laws.
  • Represent UPMC at external and internal functions (i.e., job fairs, UPMC sponsored events, etc.), providing the public with information about UPMC and career opportunities.
  • Comply, analyze and prepare reports on the computer. 
  • Function as an internal search firm recruiter by performing specific recruitment searches as necessary.
  • Work on special projects. Use data to understand performance drivers and opportunities.
  • Develop programs that enable us to deliver top candidate results.
  • Analyze and simplify current recruitment process specific to the area of support. 
  • Analyze and solve problems or roadblocks at their root, stepping back to understand the broader context. Turn stakeholder feedback into actionable insights and recommendations.



  • Bachelors degree in Human Resources, Business or related field required.
  • Four years of high volume recruitment, sourcing and interviewing experience required.
  • Knowledge of the health care field preferred.
  • Experience designing and implementing models to find applicants for hard to fill positions required.
  • Experience with applicant tracking or HRIS systems required.
  • Experience designing and implementing models to find applicants for hard to fill positions.
  • Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
