Description

UPMC McKeesport has an exciting managerial opportunity for a Director Inpatient Rehab and Transitional Care Unit to help support the Rehab and Transitional Care Units for its McKeesport location. This position will work primarily Monday through Friday but will have 24/7 acccountability.

Purpose:
Responsible for planning, organizing, coordinating, and directing the inpatient activities and services provided by the Long Term Care Facility. Facilitates process improvement programs within the clinical division to establish best practices' within the division. Directs and administers each department to ensure the highest quality and most efficient performance of each of these departments.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepares annual operating budget, implements and monitors approved budgets, payroll, and other financial records in partnership with Senior Management.
  • Promotes and maintains positive relationships within the facility with physicians, patients, families, other hospitals, rehab, long term care facilities, and other healthcare agencies.
  • Investigates irregularities, policy violations, compliance issues, patient complaints, and incident reports promptly. Implements and communicates appropriate corrective action.
  • Oversees Patient Admission, Discharge, and Process Improvement processes. Plans, organizes, and directs patient census to ensure maximum productivity and effective management of patient length of stay.
  • Delegates authority, responsibility, and accountability to department managers and other nurse leaders after ascertaining competence.
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable regulatory standards, including but not limited to the PA Department of Health, CMS (federal) and JCAHO. Keeps current with regulations and communicates changes in a timely manner. Develops strategies to assure ongoing compliance utilizing a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach.
  • Recommends staffing requirements through the utilization of productivity systems. Accountable for appropriate scheduling and staffing for areas of responsibility.
  • Assists the Nurse Executive with the development of the hospital plan for the provision of nursing care, which includes the scope of service for patient care units, and is accountable for the implementation of the plan in areas of responsibility.
  • Develops and administers departmental/service policies, procedures, and appropriate standards of care.
  • Manages employee relations in accordance with Human Resource Policies and participates in new employee selection and orientation. Conducts regular meetings with management and direct care staff. Promotes and encourages professional growth and development of employees through attendance at appropriate workshops, seminars, conferences, etc. Participates in Human Resource functions (i.e. hiring, termination, employee performance reviews, counseling, and disciplinary actions).
  • Maintains professional affiliations to enhance professional growth and development and participates in integration initiatives.
  • Monitors departmental and service line performance, through analysis of clinical outcomes (i.e. Report Card Study-Recas, etc.) and implements changes needed to improve the service while assuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborates with nursing education to achieve a staff education program for orientation, continuing education and competency programs for personnel assigned.
  • Participates and attends system, hospital, medical staff and nursing committees and serves as a resource to other departments as requested.
  • Understands and applies principles of situational leadership and Transformational Model and develops staff through these mechanisms.

 

Qualifications

  • BSN required at time of hire or transfer into position.Master's degree in nursing or related health care field required, either at time of hire/transfer, or must be enrolled in a program within one year of hire/transfer date and completed within three years of enrollment. (i.e. public health, informational technology, administration, etc.)
  • Minimum of 4 years of progressive leadership experience required with relevant clinical experience preferred. Three years' experience in healthcare in integrity, stability, discriminating judgment, resourcefulness and self-direction.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing with staff, patients, co-workers, and interdepartmentally. Possesses effective team building, customer service, leadership and continues process improvement skills.
  • Knowledge of third-party reimbursement and the Prospective Payment System for Long Term Care Facilities.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of laws and procedures related to long term care, hospital operations, and an understanding of the nursing, therapy, and medical practice. Comprehensive knowledge of personnel management and the ability to develop, motivate and maintain high performance work teams.
  • Familiarity with PA Department of Health and JCAHO regulations pertaining to inpatient rehabilitation facility, long term care facility, and acute hospital operations preferred.
  • Basic knowledge of medical terminology and computer applications including Microsoft Word and Excel. Ability to communicate effectively using verbal, written, and computer skills.
