We are hiring a Part Time Coordinator, Consumer Education to support our Magee Consumer Education team at our Oakland hospital location. You will work alongside another Coordinator through a Job Share program- you will split the role and each work 20 hours per week. You will work mainly Monday-Friday daylight with some evenings and weekends as needed. You will rotate your schedule with the other Coordinator. This role is unique because you will have flexbility in scheduling and you will have a partner to work with in coordinating our programs. In this role, you will be responsible for the implementation of consumer education programs and for providing supervision and coordination of the consumer education instructors within the department.

Responsibilities:

  • Plans, develops, designs and evaluates current and potential educational programs, maintaining current curricula and teaching materials for education programs.
  • Utilizes effective teaching strategies to present educational programs.
  • Assist the Director, Education with recruiting and the performance evaluations of the consumer education instructors.
  • Serves as a resource to Hospital staff relative to consumer and patient education. Participates in Hospital and community committees, task forces and training programs.
  • Documents and maintains consumer education statistics and records.
  • Responsible for the ongoing assessment of consumer educational needs.
  • Offers guidance and emotional support to consumer clients through class participation and subsequent conversations.
  • Responsible for orientation and the supervision of the consumer education instructors.
  • Continues professional development in health care and leadership, and as an educator.
  • Assesses need and develops or acquires instructional materials, supplies and equipment.
  • Participates in Quality Assessment and Improvement activities.
  • Responsible for following the mandatory reporting procedures for any incident or serious event that did affect or potentially could have affected the clinical care of any patient.
  • Coordinates consumer education class schedule and monitors for efficiency and cost effectiveness.
  • Represents Department and Hospital in professional and community activities and associations; expanding the awareness level of consumer education and the organization.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing, education, or allied health field is required.
  • Knowledge of clinical operations, standards and practice normally acquired through at least four years' experience in a clinical capacity with a minimum two years' experience designing courses and teaching consumers. Experience educating obstetric patients STRONGLY preferred.
  • Interpersonal skills sufficient to effectively teach and communicate ideas to consumers.
  • Analytical abilities necessary to evaluate consumer needs and design relevant programs.
  • Ability to effectively present educational programs in a classroom setting.
  • Organizational skills necessary to coordinate consumer class schedule and efficient use of instructors.
  • Supervisory skills to monitor performance of instructors and productivity standards.


Licensure, Certifications, and Clearances:

  • CPR required based on AHA standards that include both a didactic and skills demonstration component within 30 days of hire
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) OR Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Act 34
