This position is also responsible for frequent travel to UPMC hospitals within Pittsburgh and other surrounding regions.


The Freight Analyst will be responsible for projects related to Freight Optimization for both inbound and outbound freight spend. The position will cover all UPMC locations and is part of an industry-changing effort only being done at UPMC. The ideal candidate will have well-developed analytical skills, be capable of understanding statistics and other higher mathematical concepts, be detail-oriented, and able to work with a minimal amount of supervision. Additionally, she/he must be able to provide a strategic and forwarding-thinking vision to manage freight.

Responsibilities:

  • Increases efficiency of freight processes in order to more quickly and accurately identify freight opportunities and abuse by our vendors.
  • Partners closely with various UPMC Supply Chain personnel, UPMC Vendors, and Hospital Material Managers to proactively improve freight spend and to properly control the use of expedited freight.
  • Responsible for developing freight targets, gathering data, and presenting opportunities for UPMC savings.
  • Provides Root Cause analysis in the review of expedited freight and excessive freight costs.
  • Develops and executes plans to meet corporate goals and standards by profiling abusive and inefficient vendors.
  • Analyzes current and historical freight spend on an ongoing basis to identify trends; predict future opportunities and provide business intelligence to upper management.
  • Presents cost savings data with supporting detail of projects for management.
  • Present ongoing freight optimization ideas to management. Occasionally present best practices to industry groups.
  • Conduct inbound evaluation of freight in receiving to identify opportunities for savings
  • Utilizes statistical analysis to demonstrate savings opportunities based on past delivery trends.

Qualifications

  • Degree from a four-year college or university required. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years experience in inventory control, materials management, or other related fields.
  • Advanced Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel is required and experience with Microsoft Access and PeopleSoft is preferred. Strong analytical and computer/tech skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Understands the importance of controlling freight costs and how to strategically impact this spend from initial negotiations with Sourcing through freight audits and recovery.
  • Ability to work independently without supervision.
  • Professional Certifications (APICS, CPM) a benefit.
