Description

As the Corporate Manager, Compliance, you will work under the direction of the Chief Audit and Compliance Officer, the Manager is responsible to support the development and implementation of compliance programs throughout UPMC. The Manager is also responsible for supporting all compliance related activities, working collaboratively with the UPMC Compliance and Privacy Officers, Central Billing Office and Corporate Legal and Internal Audit departments as necessary. The manager will provide vision in planning by setting measurable goals and establishing a monitoring and reporting process regarding all new and ongoing compliance and ethics activities under the direction of the Chief Audit and Compliance Officer. This is a highly visible position that interacts with all UPMC business units at all levels of the organization. Responsibilities:

 

  • Assisting the Chief Audit and Compliance Officer with the development and implementation of the annual Compliance Workplans.
  • Research and provide follow up compliance advice related to compliance related questions.
  • Developing, implementing and coordinating programs that focus on those elements of the system-wide compliance program.
  • Managing the operation of the Compliance Helpline and HIPAA line and compliance e-mail boxes.
  • Developing compliance training materials and perform ongoing compliance training throughout UPMC, including the development of computer based training.
  • Effectively communicating and supporting the UPMC mission and values to employees at all levels of the health system.
  • Performing internal compliance investigations and audits throughout UPMC including compiling detailed reports with recommendations to the Compliance Officer and management.(e.g., HIPAA internal privacy complaints and external attorney general letters).
  • Developing compliance policies, procedures and practices to be implemented across the organization.
  • Coordinating and facilitating program activities in order to achieve compliance with government established deadlines.
  • Trending and analyzing for root cause and training needed.
  • Maintaining a working knowledge of the various laws, regulations and industry guidance that impact the corporate compliance program.
  • Actively supervising compliance staff at a project level.
  • Facilitating increased awareness of the corporate compliance program by providing support of and value to management's compliance efforts.
  • Providing ongoing advice and resources to management for compliance issues and process monitoring and improvement, and work with management to implement these improvements.
  • Auditing and monitoring adherence to compliance policies and procedures.
  • Coordinate responses to external audit response to DOJ, OIG, and Attorney General letters.
  • Reading, interpreting, summarizing and disseminating as assigned applicable state and federal regulatory matters. Assess impact on UPMC and prepare comment letters as assigned.

 

Qualifications

  • The Manager of Corporate Compliance must possess a Bachelor's degree, MHA, JD, or MBA and professional certification preferred.
  • A minimum of 10 years work experience with related activities in management and compliance related areas such as Legal, Regulatory Review, Research, Medical Records, Billing and Reporting is also required.
  • Experience in an academic medical center preferred.
  • The Manager of Corporate Compliance must demonstrate professionalism, political astuteness, diplomacy and the ability to work collaboratively with others, including governmental officials.
  • They must also exhibit an ability to use independent judgment and decisive decision making.
  • Additionally, critical thinking is necessary in working with and dealing with outside agencies and others within UPMC.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications is required along with well-developed analytical, problem-solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent writing and communications skills as well as familiarity with an academic medical center setting are required.
